3D printed part wish list / experience share
Hi all - just got an inexpensive but well regarded 3D printer set up and starting this thread to chat with others who have made functional parts at home or hear your ideas for 'wish list' parts.
I'm using an Ender 3-Pro that will easily print PLA and PETG and with mods (there are always mods) can likely print nylon and more exotic filaments.
Here she is printing a bracket I'm working on to add a Spal fan to my Alfa.

Some plastic parts that hold tubing etc I think may be NLA.
And this oil hose pass through grommet is definitely NLA but its rubber not sure how one would install it- maybe using H channel rubber around the perimeter of the printed part? Anyway I want one!

Use 3D printer to make a mold, then cast the rubber part would be one way.

I have the same printer and it's fantastic .... I have made clips , grommets , and all sorts of misc parts ..... Just continually working to upgrade my CAD and photo telemetry design skills. The thing has been a life saver on a few occasions already ... definitely worth the money. Just picked up some carbon fiber PLA going to play with making some parts with that material to see how they turn out.

I'd love for someone to make a front section of the 964/993 center console that can be molded to the original after cutting off the front cubby/switch section, a-la Singer and be ready to be wrapped in leather/fabric. The attempts to do so with fiberglass or filler often ignore the upturn in the front and it doesn't look great. Something that infilled that bottom edge and provided a nice front profile would be really cool.
Here is an example of a poor attempt, and then what I would be after:

Yeah- I’d go for one of those! Another related option that I’d love to see is a simple cover for the Handbrake assembly like robt964:
And finally- a tough one but how about some type of turn signal stalks that are longer for use with deeper offset steering wheels? Being tall I have to space the wheel closer to my body but it drives me nuts having to take me hand off the wheel to signal or dip the high beams in the middle of a corner.

So on another topic- what do you guys use to draw?I only use Onshape but its really great for sharing files and collaborating as all the work is done on their server. But once you have the drawing what to you have to do to prep it for use in the printer?

I got the same printer recently! The most useful thing I have printed is something to hold my suspension controller in which now sits where the cassettes used to be (car is a 993).
I also found this cup holder which works well: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4569859
Otherwise have not figured out anything else to print that would be useful.

Very cool guys - I'm excited to share knowledge.
I'm an architect and have used Rhino for ages so its what I draw with. Its not really intended for "solid modeling" a la Solidworks but totally gets it done. I believe Autodesk Fusion is still totally free, or maybe you have to apply and state its non profit. Rhino is very cheap if you have an edu affiliation which I do.
I too have recently ordered a slew of better-than-average filaments to test including higher impact/heat resistant PLA, PETG and carbon filled PLA. Will keep the thread updated. More work on my Alfa Spal fan bracket...

The beauty of a 3d printer is if you can dream it you can make it . Okay within limits but it's still very fun even with an older machine like my da vinci 1.0 AiO

^ What George said.
There was a time when a missing rear seat back release button was my bugaboo. (Yeah, you never use them, but my OCD bugged of it being missing.)
Bought a new one for stupid money (considering it's 'engineering'. But had I a printer, I'd a been sorely tempted. But that's water under the bridge.
Some ideas:
Basically, all the 'better mousetrap tools' you think of during all the pita little things routinely encountered during maintenance and driving.

Some ideas:
- Drink holder would be a Duh!-obviousfirsttrial part. Big and STRONG enough for a Super-Gulp. Heck, make it flip up/down deploy-able. With a removable sweat-catch basin. And a Porsche crest emboss. (Hey! I'm not selling 'em, so why NOT?)
- Front brake vent inlets.
- Maybe work on some rig to properly hold all the frunk's various loose items (in place): jack, tools, lug wrench
- Divider/organizer for Glove box and/or center tray. And with a cover to hide the garage door opener...
- A cell phone holder for that empty place between center console and front dash.
- A perfect-fit drip tray to slip beneath the oil filter during filter changes.
- Rounded jaw covers for my vice grip used when clamping shut the overflow line during a brake fluid change.
