I see that on many 964 the front of the hood is not perfectly aligned with the fenders as if it wasn t perfectly closed but on many others it s perfect
I understand they are older cars and some could have been damaged or resprayed and not well adjusted but usually what s causing this and what are the possible solutions?
On my 964 I already adjusted the closing mechanism and the hood alignment and it s not too bad but still not as perfect as others
Do you have a photo? Hood alignment is tricky; a tiny tiny change at the hinge is a significant shift at the bumper. I ended up sanding washers to get the perfect fit.
I was under the impression that the hood should protrude just slightly past the fenders on the 964. I would be curious to know if this is not the case.

Bumping this thread for further clarification as I need to realign my hood. I have the bumper and rubber filler strip removed such that the front of the fenders are exposed. Typically the fender leading edge will engage a few mm's into the bumper filler strip such that the front fender line will no longer be visible. My hood currently does not align with the fender metal (bumper filler strip removed) it sits back around 2-3mm and as it happens the gap at the back of the hood (hinge end) looks like its 2-3mm too small. So should the front edge of the hood align with the metal of the fenders? If so that would mean that the hood will appear to sit forward of the fenders when the bumper filler strip/fender is installed. Thanks in advance for clarification
I have the same trouble . Mine is a carbon bonnet. Fitted by previous owner . I'm not sure how challenging it will be to adjust it ? The pic is deceptive , the offside gape is good.
It's not really that the hood sits further forward than the wings, it just looks that way because the lead edge of the wing is covered by the plastic smile (you cant see the lead edge) while the hood lead edge sits on top of the smile.

Agreed, I know the rubber strip covers the leading edge if the fender. But should the front edge of the hood align with front edge of the metal fender? Thanks

I think mine is too long . Here is a 964 hood that is correct . The edge lines up with the rubber lip.
The important measure is the gap either side of the hood being equal. The lead edges of the hood and wings is itself dictated by the gap at the other end at the scuttle near the windscreen. Ideally this scuttle gap will match the two side gaps, it is also adjusted for height at this point with washers on either hinge.
