Are you sure the battery's good? Because what you describe certainly sounds like a dead battery (or something silly and electrical like a disconnected negative terminal).
I just had a one year-old Interstate battery die on me. I have thrown it on a charger over night about once every week to try to maintain it, but it still won't hold a charge. I put a multimeter on it, and it "charges" at 11.8 volts, with a resting voltage (off the charger) at 11.4 - 11.6 volts.

Is it so dead that not even the dashbord clock works? Try with another battery!
How old is the battery? How many years do you expect a battery to last?
everyone who reads this and knows that they have a battery more than five years old, buy a new battery or the old one will let you down when you least expect it!

Check all your ground connections, start with the one from the battery to chassis. Take it right off and clean the surfaces at battery and chassis.
