Life of a 964 in Los Angeles
Life in the big city..... can present you with a plethora of dings..
I've seen shopping carts blown by the wind crashing into my car. Lazy shoppers leaving carts right by her. Bumping into her when pulling in/out of a parking spot. Carelessly opening their doors.. etc...
After my most recent discovery of yet another ding, I decided to put Post-It strips on every ding so I would be able to tell if a new ding has been discovered or just a re-discovery.
I do plan on having her repainted at some point (any referrals?)and you can be sure I will be parking far away from everyone else!
I invite fellow LA residents to share your stories/pics on this post. Both Good & Bad of course.
Cheers!

It’s a sad reality these days. I occasionally take my Porsches out to run errands and I usually park far and don’t stay in the store long so no harm done. My Targa has already seen plenty of abuse over its 30 years, thankfully PDR exists and most of the damage was repaired without paintwork. If your paint isn’t damaged you might consider PDR to remove the dings....

@Marine Blue My paint is in pretty bad shape although I do try my best to keep her lookin good. I may experiment with PDR just for the heck of it.

It is hard on a daily to keep it looking its best, LA at least has parking lots and garages. I was recently in London, walking the streets you see every imaginable exotic parked at the curb. In all weather, under trees, pigeons galore, curb rage wheels and bumpers that are bumpers; you know, you park by backing in and bumping the car so you know to pull forward.
I am not crazy about dings, they leap out at me when looking at a car and can easily be fixed. So- so paint is a testament to a car's character, I have some hefty scars on my body too, sign of a life well lived. I see lots of Porsches get hermetically sealed and not enjoyed, it is nice to come upon one that has been used as intended. As the saying goes: the trick isn't to depart this earth in a well preserved body, better to slide sideways into heaven, totally spent and say "what a fuking ride".

Totally agreed, Mr BevHills. Door dings annoy the heck out of me, and my new-to-me 964 has a lot of them. At some point, I'll go the PDR route. It worked wonders when a stray German Shepherd ran into the side of another one of my cars. But the silver lining of a non-perfect car is that you don't feel bad using it. You'll drive it, as the good Dr Porsche intended.

Most new vehicles on the road, in my area, are leased with insurance to cover any damage on lease return, so they don't care. That and most vehicles are large pick-up trucks or SUVs with monster doors to match. Most parking spots are not wide enough for the new tanks. Park far away and hope for the best and plan for the worst.

I agree. That was kinda a strange reply. I understand everyone loves the Cups but nevertheless the comment was weird even with the happy face roll.
Now that's out of the way.. great post. If everyone lived in L. A. like us they'd understand just how little 99% of all the wonderful residents of our fair city respect other people's property.
I was in my 911 the other day sitting in my car and a guy walks up to his passenger door of his work van and Bam! Just opens it up right on my fender. I jumped out and asked him what's the problem. He didn't even care. Some other language other than English pours out the side of his mouth and walks away.
What happened to post WW2 America where people actually respected each other, their elders and themselves. ... damn.
Ok, sorry for the rant.
