Mark, sure worked at Sebring. FWIW, I've got an Upsolute (Austrian) that's been programed on a Dyno, and w/o cats, but headers(dual out) bumped me up quite nicely. And just had an the RS flywheel/kit installed and I haven't had it stall yet. I must clarify.... I've only driven it on and around the Track for 3 1/2 days of DE.
It does dip about 100-150 rpm at times though. I'm told they could program this out, but it's a Track Car!
Good luck
Bill

I should also note that I have a GIAC chip for my 993 that I got from Steve. GTech testing showed about 8 hp improvement from stock.

Bill,
Did you have the dyno mapping programmed at Hairry Dog?

I thought about a unichip, but passed as it was a lot more expensive. The upside is it is programmed on a dyno for your car (part of the reason it cost so much more) and the downside is the number of parameters that can be adjusted are limited and you need someone who knows what they are doing running the dyno and doing the programming.

I struggled with my 964 engine, rather frustrated that even the most optimistic hp/displacement at 3.6 or even 3.8 litres would net me less than 100hp over the engine with little more than a generic chip, open exhaust and intake. I was looking at quotes starting at $10K and numbers of no more than say 350hp if I wanted the thing to hold together and spin up to say 7000rpm reliably. Over the last two or three decades I've pretty much concluded that there's no escaping the very well understood two roads -- the normally aspirated (my preference) and the forced induction (what I'm driving today ... so, mea culpa ... I love 'em both!) In n-a terms, there's a balance of rpm, power and durability. In forced induction, I've yet to see a durable supercharger solution but the factory turbo products post OBD-II can be easily tweaked to huge power and torque numbers starting at 500hp without internal strengthening and if the punter is willing and the bank doesn't bounce their cheque, there's no limit to turbo horsepower other than the number of minutes the engine will live ...

... now back to the discussion of fish and chips ... (vinegar on mine, please.)

With 350 hp and a good torque curve, I bet the 964 would get close to my 03 TT. Not sure why. Maybe weighting or gearing, but mine is getting awefully close to TT land and has scooted past my 04 996 in quickness. I am sure I would be in 4.5 range if I took my 200 pounds in stereo gear out and am in 4.6X range now. I should have 350 - 360 hp in March when the Lenz gets added and if it performs as represented. Big if, but I really think it will be hanging with my TT. Well see though. I do have connecting rods, pistons, valves springs and internals to handle the 350 hp if it comes to fruition.

Maybe those last few 10nths of a second will be harder to shave off than I expect. Who knows. I actually get more of a kick out trying my make my 964 fast while keeping it NA even though more costly. I love this car and have had as much fun with this car as with any Porsche I have ever owned.

Jason A, Dan brought it for me to his Dyno guy. Don't recall the shop name off the top, but can pull the sheets, as I have them in the office if you need 'em.

If you have a scanner I would love to see the printouts. Will you be attending the Zone 1 Tech Tactics next month?

Doubt it. Just had 2 weeks off...(Sebring & Fla. home) ailing Mom, blah blah.
Would love to hear how it goes though. Will try to hear Bruce A @ upcoming CVR monthly meeting.
Not complaining but it's back to the mine tommorrow!

I bought a supposedly custom made Cyntex chip for my old 964 and it did not run properly (choking feel) under full throttle. Paul at Cyntex promised to send a new chip but after several reminders and phonecalls and nothing received (crap service), I gave up and changed it to a Weltmeister which was good.

The Cyntex chip worked better in a different car and now has a new home.

Ciao,

Johannes E.

You might want to check out the Andial web site (www.andial.com) on the
FAQ page under Question 2 for insights into performance chips, especially
for the 964 which has knock sensors. As many of you know, Andial is
Porsche Factory Racing USA and has prepared engines for many races,
e.g. Daytona and Le Mans.

I've seen many problems, mostly pinging and emissions problems, with the
use of chips over the last ten years. So, beware of potential problems.

Have Fun
