Boy, I can't wait to take the car for a drive. Gaswerks in NJ is rebuilding the engine. Gaspare's attention to detail is incredible. Engine goes back in tomorrow.
So I am up to 60k miles now, about 1k miles since the engine overhaul - well run in at this point. I am still getting an annoying clutch smell when taking off in first gear, although it now happens less and less. However, just when you think that we have taken care of EVERYTHING, we discovered a broken ABS pump when I tried to bed the brakes. Thanks for @cobalt for getting me a spare quickly! Hope we can install it before the shops have to close in this area for the next two weeks.
Lesson learnt: You can't buy a used car cheap enough!

Haha that lesson can’t be stated enough. Even after 2.5 years I’m still sinking money into my Targa. I just finished bedding my rear brakes last weekend, thankfully no surprises and the ABS kicked in when I really got on it but that could just as easily gone differently.
Hopefully the weather continues to improve and you can enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Truer words have never been spoken. I feel you in getting things done in these times we live in. My car is at the detail shop getting some work done and I’m trying to get them to get it back to me as soon as they can. Stay safe out there!
Hope the pump works for you. I had a 92835595500 spare there are two units listed the other is 96435595500 is listed for the C2/C4 the 928 part number for the Turbo look, Carrera 2/4 and Carrera RS. Does anyone know what the differences are?
Ok - car is back and the clutch smell is totally gone (no clue what they did but I will find out). ABS works great - no issues. Maybe because I have the Carrera RS brake system?
So the occasional local 964 drive has really helped me keep my sanity in these difficult times. Car runs great and I really enjoy it on sunny Spring days. The only weak spot I found are the crappy headlights. How on earth did people in the 90s think these lights are safe? Even though they are H4 lights given that the car came from Japan they are LHD lights so its time to make a change. I just ordered Audette Collection LED lights with Hela fluted lenses to keep the original look. I can't wait until they are installed.
