Default Idle problem

The idle on my 93 RSA oscillates at about 1Hz and on occasion the engine will stop completely when I take my foot off the gas at a light. Performance when I'm on the throttle at all is fine.

Any suggestions on what this could be? Airflow sensor? Idle valve? Can anyone suggest how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
Bill

Try disconnecting the battery first. Leave it for 15 mins before you reconnect. This resets the DME which is a good place to start.

Also, replace the DME relay... cheap and most times the culprit... (at least it was in my case)

I also read here that oil overfill can cause this - oil contamination in the air flow sensor...

Bill...I recently had some airflow problems along with a loose ignition wire...minor issues appeared to be major symptomatic.

Hi Bill:

All good advice here,...I'd just add that a thorough cleaning of the Idle Stabilizer Valve with carb cleaner really helps, too.

My 92 C2 always has an erratic idle whenever the battery gets weak. New battery has made the problem go away both times I've had to replace it.
