Default 1992 C2 Clutch Shaft Problem

Ordered a new clutch shaft and the two sections that go into the clutch fork bushing is 0.004" too large. I sanded the coating off of one of the sections but no measurable difference in the diameter. Is this normal to have to fit the shaft by removing material when installing?

Attached is a photo showing the clutch fork, the new shaft with one end cleaned off and the old shaft. The fork is part number is 950 116 712 3R and the shaft number is 950 116 710 04. Both numbers are correct for the car.

Thanks!

Bob

Are the plastic bushings white/cream or black?

The bushings are metal, looks like aluminum and are not replaceable. I do not have service records for the car. I suspect when the clutch was replaced in the past the shop used an update kit from the 87-89 series transmissions instead of the normal fork. I have found pictures of the kits with white and black plastic bushings but none with metal bushings like mine. I anticipate I will have to replace the fork as I will not be able to find the correct shaft that is 0.004" smaller.

Any reasonable machine shop should be able to ream the bushes to within a 0.001” followed by a quick hone to finish + 0.0005” for running clearance.

I live in a rural area so it is easier to order a new fork with the plastic bushings.
