Default o-ring for axle/driveshaft?

I'm in the process of replacing the rear cv joints in my 1993 c4. In the process of taking the, for lack of the proper term, cover off of the outer cv joint, I nicked the shaft race (again don't know the right term). I've attached a pic. It looks like there is an o-ring in there. Could I just replace the o-ring and go on my merry way and not worry about the nick? Also, if that is an o-ring, which I suspect it is, does anyone know the size?

Thanks in advance.

The outer cv is supposed to not be diy serviceable. I’ve never seen anyone manage take the grease cover off.

The grease isn’t under pressure. I would slap some gasket sealant on it and press it back together. Or just put it back as-is. A little grease might squeeze out over time but not enough to worry about. Keeping in mind nobody has ever attempted this

Have more pics of the disassembled joint?
