Default Question about Cup 1 wheel values + sizes

Hi all, I have a 1989 Carrera 4. I'm currently running OEM RS America Cup 1 wheels - part # 965.362.124.00 & 965.362.126.00. They are 7 x 17 ET55 front, 8 x 17 ET52 rear. They have brand new (literally installed last week) Michelin PS2s and were ceramic coated yesterday. Freshly refinished over the winter, truly immaculate condition. Someone has approached me and offered $5k CAD (about $4k USD) for the set.

I also have a set of Turbo cup 1s....7.5 x 17 ET 52 front and 9 x 17 ET 47 rear, no tires. If I sell the RSA wheels, ill be getting tires and installing these on the car.

So here are my questions for you: 1: Is that a fair price for the RSA wheels/tires, or should I be asking more? 2: What size tires would be recommended for the Turbo wheels - I'd like to price them out to see what this is really going to cost me. 3: Any general comments about RSA vs wider turbo wheels on an '89 C4?

Pic of the car below. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

I think you're right that they would earn a premium there, but being in Canada it would likely mean shipping - I'm much more inclined to let them go to this local buyer with cash in hand, but want to make sure I'm not being lowballed. There are no real comparables online.

Noted...that's what I'm trying to figure out, but am leaning towards selling. It hurts that I just spent $1300 on tires last week though.

These are the only comparables I can really find...and are without tires/caps, but are supposedly brand new. https://msroadrace.com/964%20RS%20Am...12601?limit=75

Hi Jarod !

Depends on what you want.

Aren't there normal 7/8s Cup1 (OEM ofc) for buy in Canada? I would buy a set of those if they are way cheaper and sell the RSA + sell the Turbo Cups (they don't fit a narrow 964 without spacers anyway, or am I wrong?).

Fact is RSA OEM wheels are not making your car more special than regular ones and I get it some collectors want the original part number wheels on their RSA, that's why they pay top money for it.

But on the other hand 5k is a nice stack of money when you already have the spare parts. Put some rubber on the Turbo Cups for 1k and you just got 3k to spend another guards red Porsche labeled car

I think the set that grabbed a lot of attention on BAT was a oem porsche turbo set cup1s 17x7 and 17x9. Pulled $5k usd?
Someone correct me if i am wrong.

I don't know, but if OEM RSA Cup1s have same part number as OEM 964 Cup1s, I don't see why the turbos wouldn't go for much more than the RSA Cup1s. Of course there are less people searching for Turbo wheels than people searching for Carrera/RSA wheels, but in proportion they should be at least as rare if not more.

RSA wheels would be the more rare of the group, but Turbo wheels are often more desirable due to wider track. Obviously Carrera RS mags are what we all dream about.

According to my local Porsche dealership the OEM tire choice for my Turbo wheels would be the same as what's on the current RSA's...205/50 front, 255/40 rear. I guess just a little more stretched?

Ive been told the set up most desired is rocking 17x8 rsa rears up front and 17x9 turbo rears.. in the rear.
hardest pair to get is the 17x8s since no one likes parting the two out.

That would certainly make sense.

Sell the RSA wheels and put on the 7.5"/9" with 225/45 and 255/40. I have that setup with same offsets in cup 1 reps. Yes the wider wheels will be a little heavier, but if you have cup 1s on, you aren't really concerned about the boat anchor weight

The set that pulled in $5100 on BAT were 17x7.5 and 17x9. Someone must've really wanted them because it seemed like a knock out bid. Another set with same part numbers sold for $3800 a few months later.

Thanks for the info Greg, didn't realize you were running those sizes! Do you have any clearance issues with 225s on the front (or clearance issues in general with the wheels)? Do you know what offsets you're running? I was a bit concerned about the widths on a narrow body rubbing. If you give me the green light I'll order the same size tires and let the RSAs find a new home.

I'm running Continental Extremecontact Sport tires on the same offsets 17x7.5 ET52 and 17x9 ET47 with a 7mm spacer in the rear. Fills the rear fender out nicely. No spacer in the front right now. I've only heard a small rub in the front on one big dip on the highway where there was a lot of suspension travel. Doesn't rub at full lock either although I'm not positive if the steering is the same on an '89 vs '91.
