Need to rebuild mine. Do you have any advice, experience?
I found a thread from 2006 "Replacement ABS brake pumps - Invasion Auto Products?" and am considering them because they are local.
I read somewhere here someone used a Mercedes pump to rebuild their 964 pump. The pumps looked identical, but the fellow wasn't sure they were exchangeable. I'll try to find thread.
Some 18 months ago I thought I was in the same spot... and contacted Invasion. They confirmed they could rebuild mine for the cost listed on their website.
I ended up just replacing the pressure switch, since the leak was diagnosed as coming from the joint between switch and pump. That fixed my issue, and left me with a job to clean out the frunk pan and get it treated and painted.
I looked for that Mercedes pump as well, but couldn't find one. F348 and F355 also use this part, but same or even higher prices for that crowd.
That company has pretty abysmal reviews. Just as a caution. Without knowing what the guts of the pump look like, it seems like there must be hydraulic seals available to rebuild the pump. Wish you luck, and looking forward to seeing the solution.
Just a quick update. I used Invasion in North Hollywood and when I put in the pump it leaked. Took it back, waited for 3 hours for them to "repair", put it back in and it leaked again (under no pressure, just head from reservoir). This time I took it apart and was shocked to find broken parts and seal that was not replaced. Going back with pictures on Monday. Will report what I find.
So today May 6th, I took it back to Invasion Auto Parts in North Hollywood and showed them the pictures above. Their approach was belligerence, and denial. They agreed to replace the gasket, seal, and broken cam. I came back in 2 hours and they showed me a bench test with the pump hooked up to a oil supply and pressurizing a sphere. The pump obviously worked and no particular loud noises. The pressure switch was not in the circuit. I saw no leaks (but it leaked under no pressure, just the head from the brake fluid reservoir before),
Fingers crossed, it may work this time.
Invasion Auto Parts in North Hollywood - a word about them. I cannot recommend them, and it may be a moot issue. Sam the crusty old owner is getting old, and the building run down and is for lease. The place is a filthy mess and there are parts (pumps, turbos, etc) to be repaired everywhere on the floor of the front office. They took me out back for the test and it was huge with work benches and stored parts all over the place, but very few people working. My guess is they are not long for this world. I would definitely NOT send in a part for repair at this time.
As part of this thread, I did get a recommendation for BBA Remanufacturing Inc 467 Edgeley Blvd Unit 13 Concord ON L4K 4E9 Canada 1-866-573-0266. http://www.bba-reman.com
