Default Crank problem, two times

Hello fellow 964ers

I don’t remember really when this happened, but recently when I start my car it would required two crank. The first crank would be like a death battery, crank the second time and the car fires right up. No check engine light, no smoke, no weird noises, just have to crank two times to start the car. Just wondering if anyone here encountered such a problem? Or anyone has any idea what could causes such problem?

What's the condition of the battery and how frequent do you drive the car?

i drive the car may be once or twice a month, the battery is about two years old. I did have to put the battery on a charger about two months ago.

I would do the typical battery test or take it to a Autozone and they will do it for free. Check the battery before you go any deeper into the rabbit hole. If it's not the battery, it could be a number of things which you could systematically isolate (parasitic drain, bad battery cables, alternator, etc, etc). My Interstate battery is about a couple of years old and it's time to change out due to bad cells.

Before you crank it the first time, put the key on the on position. Do all of your electronics work correctly? Windows, radio, dash lights? If so, possibly the starter going bad? I haven't had the issue in my p-car but in others I'd have something very similar happen and it turned out to be the starter.

Well, thanks for the pointers guys.

Checked the battery and sure enough the negative terminal was loose. I guess when I did the valve covers and spark plugs I disconnected it and never tighten it up. That was an easy fix.
