Thanks Tom.W - Hwy 35/9
Many thank to Tom. W today!
With the wife and kids gone for the day today I seized the opportunity of acting on his advice of a week or two ago and taking a drive down HWY 35 onto HWY 9 then onto HWY 1 and back home all the way on 1 (with just one stop Camerons English Pub for a pint of Boddies and a slap up binge) - 30-40 miles of tight twisty bends, nary a cop or pedestrian in sight and not too many cars (well, for the first 30 miles anyway!!) The light filtered through the tall Redwoods and the aroma of wood smoke and pine floated in through the open sunroof...just divine! This has to be the best drive I've had in the C4 since I bought it, without a doubt. I mean I love fast drives down HWY 1, but there are some just delicious bends on highway 35 that truly demonstrate the handling of our beautiful cars! Any Bay Area owners that have not taken this route need to get up now and go get in their cars!
Only drawback was I turned (briefly) onto HW9 in the direction of Big basin and got my car absolutely COVERED in mud!! She just had a well deserved bath and a pamper however and is in her jimjams in the garage resting her tires as I type this , so all's well that ends well!
Tom, with the stress I relieved today I owe you 12 months worth of therapy bills!
Cheers,
--HB

Oh yeah! When I lived in the city, I used to drive there all the time. Great 911 roads. Since I moved to Marin in April, I've been there exactly once. 35 and 9 aren't the only great roads around there. Alpine and some of the other roads are fantastic as well. It's a great area to explore!
Also, there is a Porsche group (mostly 993 guys) who do Saturday/Sunday morning drives around there every few weeks. They leave very early so the family guys can be home by noon. I think there is one on 2/7. I'll probably get a e-mail from them this week, which I'll forward to you.

Howard, while there are a number of 993's, it's far from exclusive! It's Rennlist folk and friends. The last drive had 996's. 993tt's, 993's. at least 1 964, 911's, at least 1 356 and I think a 912 with a couple boxsters thrown in for good measure.
We meet at the scenic overlook at 92 and Skyline ... I bumped my old announcement back to the top a bit ago. Hope to see you and a couple other 964's there.

I may try to make it on Saturday, although 7 a.m. may be too damned early!

But John, what more could you want? We provide coffee, donuts and plenty of cars to talk about before taking a fun drive. I don't usually get out of bed on the weekends until 8:30, but even I get up early for the drives.

jon, marin is not that far north from oakland. it's a long haul for me too. but it's worth it to get up early... for the KKD's... tom, did pin tell you i can polish off an entire box by myself in about 15 minuntes!

Jon, I would be happy to loan you one of my young children (or even both!) for the weekend - they specialize in a very effective Saturday & Sunday 5:30am wakeup involving a duel method of 300 decibel Singalong with Barney and blunt trauma to the forehead in the form of a musical plastic Barbie cash register!
Winter rates are reasonable...just let me know!

John - a box of KKD's in not something I would be proud of (any longer). When I was young and poor, I could destroy a dozen day old donuts in about 30 minutes. Now I'm old and fat and can't tolerate that much sugar. Besides, I don't like KKD's - too chalky. Give me a nice chocolate-frosted cake donut with lots of oil any day.

Hey thanks Eagle! It is a recent update to celebrate my clear lens installation! :-)
Tom and John - just the thought of polishing off a box of Krispy kreams OR an oily chocolate-frosted cake donut before heading off at speed around those Skyline twisties is quite naseau inducing...you, sick, sick twisted people! :-)
cheers,
