Default Follow-up re: 964/993 hoods same?

I have been lucky enough to find a 993 aluminum front lid, used in endurance racing, for a very good price (thanks Christian!), and got my answer:
The 993 front hood is dimensionally EXACTLY the same as the 964 hood. The bend is the same too. The only difference being the windshield washer jets are on the hood. Since there will be welding anyways on the hood, that did not matter.

Amazing - they have always seemed so different to me when in situ. Not that I've studied this, obviously.

I remember a recent post where somebody stated that a 993 hood ornament (badge) would not fit as the hood gradient was different...this is interesting news!

Talking of hoods JB - you mentioned in another thread that mine was looking too high! (I think maybe your right)...whats the remedy?

Cheers,

H

Have you tried just screwing in the rubber buffers at each corner a little, Howard?

The comment about the badge was from me.

I am suprised it fits, because the badges definitely are not the same shape. Glad for you that it does though.

DaveK,

I am also absolutely positive that the bonnet badges are fully interchangeable as I've replaced mine with a 993/996 one, fitted straight in, no problem at all whatsoever.

Best regards

OK - all I can say is I had one which I was told was for a 993 and it was a lot more curved at the back. I was going to take a photo, but I can't actually find it - not sure what I did with it. Maybe the one I was given was actually off something else - or I was just unlucky.

John, can you lend more info about this - are you referencing where the hood/bonnet attaches to the hinge? Thanks, --HB

DaveK - do you still need a replacement hood emblem? I just ordered 2 new ones (Ebay - some chap selling 2 for 1) and would be happy to spare one! :-)
