So just to be clear - you heat the nuts until cherry red and then immediately try to wrench them off while they are still hot, right, rather than going through a cool - heat - cool cycle.

Yes.. good luck.

Although the great video clip shows replacing the tubes with all exhaust in place.

The oil return tube under cylinder #3 is impossible to replace with the heat exchangers installed on a 964, #2 is nearly impossible and #1 is a nightmare with the oil return line (in place) that runs to the oil filter console. You might also want look into replacing that oil line now that you'll have the heat exchangers off. FYI. its a nightmare to split the collector that goes into the cat at the back of the engine so don't worry about taking down both heat exchangers together at the same time.
