Default 964 Suspension Questions

Had my 1989 964 coupe for several months now, 100k miles and "I think" original suspension.

I already have a set of Eibach lowering springs still in the box.

Spoke to Tire Rack about replacement shocks/struts. They say Bilstein lists TWO DIFFERENT B6 front struts, and I need to tell them what is currently on the car. Pretty sure he wasn't referring to left vs right.

How do I determine what is on the car now??

Thanks...

Other than right or left not sure what they are telling you. Make sure they have them in stock. I ended up canceling my order with them after waiting 3 months. Ended purchasing from a European vendor because I couldn't find the front struts in the US.

No, not left and right. He said he had a listing for original "Boge" struts, green in color, asked if mine were the Boge ones?? I've read pretty much about the suspension options and haven't come across THAT. BTW, my current struts aren't green.

Thanks,
Rob

ps...no they are not in stock, same with Pelican Parts. At least the Tire Rack guy said they expect them in "soon"...Pelican wasn't very optimistic about getting them..

You won’t be disappointed if you also change the bushings, at minimum the fronts.
I did springs and B6 and wasn’t happy. Following off season I replaced all bushings, strut and shock mounts, drop links and sway bushes...made all the difference. 25+ Year old, 100,000 mile bushings are sloppy for sure.

540964 Did you buy OEM bushings or are they upgraded and if they are, from where and what kind.

What you currently have on the 964 is irrelevant to what you want to buy, what matters is whether you have the early or late model rears as pointed out by Rob... Single part number for front struts, multiple part numbers for rear ones depending on production date.

PS: Tire Rack is giving you a line, they have been expecting them “soon” for well over 6 months now. They are still on back order in the US, no word yet on when they will be available from Bilstein.

PPS: If you are set on the B6s, check with Gert at Carnewal.

I'll have a set of B6s + H&R springs for sale that are barely used (~500 miles) if you're interested. Upgrading to PSS10s but waiting for them to come in from Gert.

I already have the springs but might be interested in the shocks and struts.

You want the b6 aka HD bilsteins.
Front Driver Left Suspension Strut Assembly Bilstein 35-052777
Front Passenger Right Suspension Strut Assy Bilstein 35-052784

I just installed these a couple of months ago. I also found none in stock anywhere, so I bought a pair off of EBay from someone who had some that were a few years old but never installed.

And I assume the tire rack guy was confusing the rear shocks with front struts. Two versions for rear as noted above, only one for front regardless of MY.
good luck!

Bought springs and rear shocks from Tire Rack, ended up buying fronts from Rose Passion in France. They had them in stock at the time although they shipped two left struts the first time around. Cost a bit more than Tire Rack plus shipping.
