Default 92 C2 Steering Rack - No longer available?

Been a long time since I have posted; hopefully i can get some help here. The steering rack on my 92 C2 is toast. I thought it would be simply easy enough to by a new one. I've come to learn that Porsche discontinued the part as new and re-manufactured for the years 92-93 for some strange reason and there are absolutely none to be had anywhere according to my shop. My shop who I trust implicitly would rather put a new one in rather than rebuild mine or buy a rebuilt one to swap but thats looking like not possible. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. The 91 part number is 964-347-009-02, the 92 part ends in 04. Would a 91 work on a 92? Assuming now that my only option is to rebuild mine or buy a rebuilt one can anyone recommend someone. I would prefer to buy a rebuilt and swap it out. Vertex has one for 1100 with a 400 core. Never have worked with them before but have heard mixed things. They are local to me so it would make for an easy process. Pelican has one rebuilt 1200 and only a 200 core. Anyhow, thank you to all in advance.

Alon.

Alon,

I used Rack Doctor for a remanufactured rack for the C4 I recently sold. I was happy with the price and service. Went in like a charm. I’d do it again if I had too. Promptly refunded me my car deposit upon receipt of my old one.

I did a little searching.
Looks like the -91 rack is discontinued and none of the typical aftermarket shops have them
the 92- rack isn’t available via Bosch rebuild parts where i normally shop (it was not long ago)
however sunset has them listed as available
https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...ar-96434700904

the difference in 91 to 92 is the rack line connections. I do not know if it’s an exact swap. I’m sure it can be made to work.

also. The 993 rack will bolt in ok on the 92+ supposedly. It has a quicker ratio

Look at the last pic on my build thread. That is a 91 rack. You can compare to yours.

Personally id have mine rebuilt if it’s just the seals. There are shops here that specialize in that for a few 100 bux.

You can buy seal kits and do it yourself as another option. I did mine a couple of years ago. These guys sell them.

Thx for posting. What's the shop selling this? Is there a core deposit?

This is Autobahn dismantler in san Diego area. You can call them direct too. These guys get a LOT of parts from a certain builder.
I just got an airbox cover from them, good price shipped got next day.

Lets face it you mean Singer. IIRC they are using a 993 rack in the singer so they should have a number of both for sale.
