This 86 944 is for sale down the street. I like it! Cheap too by Porsche standards!

I had a 968 for a few months, totally different car than a 964, its like comparing apples to oranges. The 968 is really an amazing car, the power delivery is on point and it could be driven daily no problem, just beware because those cars were very cheap for a long time so weren't treated very well, the few clean examples that pop up go for a lot of $$ and are snatched up quick.

I had a 951 (944 Turbo) and really enjoyed it on track. Great balance, good power, fun car. Id take an M3 or S2000 over a 951 any time.
the 944/968 are plain boring to drive. I suspect a 3.0 liter is too big for a 4cyl.
anyways, either Turbo or bust for me.

Owned an 86 951 right before my 964. It was actually a really fun car. It was modded, so made more power than my 964. Boost can be addicting as hell though. All in all, I'd definitely buy/drive one again, but I strongly prefer the 964 to it for several reasons. Mainly looks/sound/slightly more difficult to drive than the watercooler.

My 968 (below), something else altogether. Love it. So adaptable (where generally the 964 isn't and is less compromising) - I can track it one day and put up with the crap highway queues for hours the next. For me it is the most balanced, weight distributed car I have ever driven (had older Ferraris and Lambo's in the past and they don't touch it). Does have M030 sway bars and Promax chip which help. Slick gearbox and changes, very tight and precise steering. So predictable in its handling and oversteers beautifully, in that it lets you know when and how much. Recently re-geo'd with new M030 adjustable Koni's all round and very sticky tyres. Another level.
Both very different driving experienences and don't ever see myslef parting with either. I paid cheap money for both years ago when neither were as popular. 964 all power, noise and big prescence and I love that. 968 more than enough fun with everyday usability and confidence in all driving and condtions.

I owned a 944 S2 for a number of years. It was used in an article in Excellence magazine years ago and they continued to use it as the picture for their valuation reports for a number of years. Had a red stripe on a black car.
At the time I owned it my 94 turbo and my 928GTS. All three were completely different rides. The 928 was slow and heavy feeling until you pushed it hard and it sprung to life. The turbo was quick and fast always egging you on to go faster than you should on the streets and the S2 was a great handling well balanced driver. IMO underpowered so a stock 944 would be too anemic for me but they are great cars to tool around in. I would look for an S2, turbo or 968 if I was looking and forget the rest. They are cheap to buy into but costly to repair and lacking power.

Found the video a little too subjective and slightly biased (he's had his own 964 for a while now). To compare (imply one being worse or better than the other) in this video is a bit unjustified - both completely different design approaches and characters, as intended by Porsche. Only similarity being they both have a 9 and a 6 in their model name. To contrast would be more appropriate. Both provide driving fun in very different ways, and that's potentially your only criteria - what sort of driving fun is one seeking? The 964 won't do what a 968 can and vice-versa.
Thought my 968 would be temporary ownership, but now with a few original M030 options it won't be going anywhere (niether the 964). The next thing on my list to add is a 981 Cayman S, and this only for the reason that I fancy another altogether different driving experience again.
