Mystery bracket....Any ideas

Hello all… For those reading in the states I hope you had a great Fourth of July!

I'm posting a photo of an empty bracket that is installed near the door in the foot well area of the passenger side of my 1990 964. I can't imagine its factory, and it looks small for fire extinguisher.

Anyone have the answer for any ideas?

if that is a Japan car its the flare mount required there.
