they've had this for sale for enough time now that they might be open to offers. this is on the high side of tip prices that i have seen.

Not a 964 on the list 😂 Well at least you have been in some Tip cars a lot of people with opinions never have been

I prefer a manual but tips are not bad rides. I have several friends with tips as they have limitations that won't allow them to drive a clutch and they move along nicely. I don't see many tips for sale but have seen numerous tip coupes so they do exist. It makes no sense to buy a clean tip and swap out the tranny. If you can find a good condition 993 6 speed tranny it will run you between $10k to $12k before all the work and offers little benefit over the 5 speed unless it is a ROW tranny. A decent 5 speed will run you $8-10K.
There was a nice RSA clone low mile tip coupe that just sold on BaT the other day https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...america-clone/ This would have been a great ride for someone and yes you can remove the decals.

I've had a '90 Tip, and an '00 Tip 986, the '90 was nice but the "00 was much better, and the new PDK's are amazing. My current 964 is a 5 speed, and I'm OK with that too. IMHO if you want to be fast in a Tip, perfect your left foot braking as you can keep the engine in the revs.

I did contact the dealership out of curiosity regarding that silver 92. I expected not a penny under 54k and they are asking 57,500. I'm starting to think a mid 80s carerra 3.2 coupe manual might be more up my alley. With the correct stance and wheel combo I quite like the look of those cars. Hopefully I can get something well maintained under 40k

as for the 3.2s, i sold a very, very nice '87 last year - black on natural sports, 7/8 fuchs, exhaust, chip, great paint, etc. - for $38.5k, so you should be able to find sub-40.

i agree. with the current prices of 964s, you have to start considering some alternatives - either below that value or equal. for me, i have mentioned that the 964 is now knocking on 355/6 prices and that makes for a difficult choice. the 355 is drop-dead gorgeous and drives like a go-kart..
After my last 964 was rear ended and totaled, for a while I wasn't sure I could get back into a 964 I felt comfortable with. Every car seemed ordinary, expensive and had lots of deferred maintenance. Fine at $40K, but not $60K. The market had changed so much in the 10 years since I bought by first 964.
I didn't want to go older, so I even started looking at 997s...
Fortunately or unfortunately, the 964 just pushes so many of the right buttons that I had to stay in one. Only car I'd change a 964 is a 997 GT3, but that's another $20-40K jump.
Love hearing the reviews and techniques to driving a Tip fast.

i went down the 997 road with a 997.1 S and i never meshed with the car. very nice car, very capable - just a tad uneventful and underwhelming on a daily basis - for me.
my next purchase is more than likely down to a 964, a 6.2 GT3, or a gated 355. not a bad lot to choose from.
