i have one at home , minus the stuck-on porsche crest

Ian,
This was the wheel used on the very first few 930 flatnoses. It was also an option on the '87-'89 CS Carrera.

Dear George,
That is more like it. I was looking through my photos but I do not have a good one to share of the GT-1 steering wheel as well. Will not fit a 964.
I have seen this wheel on a number of Speedsters. I am sure it was a special option.
I remember somebody offering a similar wheel (930S) as has been mentioned and I contacted the person but never heard from them again.
Ciao,
Adrian

i think if you peel off the horn pad , you will see the italvolante crest and part number .

i will check the one i have at home later , and post them numbers .

the italvolante , like most sports wheels , has a detachable boss , so can be made to fit any car . i remember italvolante using the same stud pattern as momo .

i think this whjeel is still available as a mark1 goilf option , as the mark one is still sold in south africa as a "citi golf"

it will be a while before i get home to check the wheel , and get back to the internet cafe (as i have to use a relatives pc on the way home as my PET is installed there )
so , if anyone wants to check vw sa website , or mark1 rabbit section of vw vortex .......... they might find the info there

Momo also made a similar wheel. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. This all came up all that time ago when I was helping somebody. I should learn to record more of this stuff. I think one of our Rennlist sponsors sells a similar wheel.

erm , slight problem..............

the guys who cleared out my garage of mark1 gti stuff must have taken the wheel .

i textd them to ask , awaiting reply .

however , i found the center section .
it doesn't peel off , i was thinking of something else . it has 3 small screws that fix it from behind .
i remember it being a fiddly job to take off !!!

the centre section is a piece of aluminium , covered in foam and leather , with the words ITALVOLANTE MADE IN ITALY on the back .

i shall have more info when the guys get back to me .

if it is the same wheel with a different front cover , there are loads of them knocking about .

was a vw option (also as a 4spoke version which is just UGLY )
and i think it is still available from vw south africa .
if not , loads of second hand ones around ,
some tuners , GTI engineering for one , even had there own made up with there name instead of the small vw embosed logo .

Ian,
It is the same wheel in 3 spoke version. It is an Italvolante. I know for a fact it was offered on Porsches as well. I like it but it is a matter of taste. I guess it is more the history of it, but then don't we all?
Regards

hi georgeK

the 3 spoke is a nice wheel , i'm saying i think the 4 spoke is ugly !!!

if i get mine back , pay shipping and its yours ( or if anyone else wants it )

its only really good for spares , but i know the horn buttons are fragile , and its worth having a spare !!!

Two original 964 Speedster wheels. Had the same in my 968 CS and loved it.

Today, however, I know that nothing can beat a Momo Montecarlo for ergonomics!

I also have a Momo Prototipo and a Momo Corse as well an old Nardi for Ferrari and they are all nice, traditional or beautiful.

But the Montecarlo is perfect!

What is the diameter of Monte Carlo? I have the Ghibli 3 and I wonder if they have the same dimension.

Burgass,
As far as I remember, it is 350mm. They also have a smaller one at 320mm but that is only for Formula 1 wannabes.
The Ghibli has a nice modern-elegant style and fits very well in limousines like that Audi. Ferrari chose it for the 348. It was one of the more beautiful parts of that car!

hey burgass ,
whats that wheel ???

i have some oettinger/okrasa wheels , made by momo , that look the same .

if i remember , all it says on the wheel under horn pad , is momo v35
( i take it 35 refers to 35cm )

does the horn pad peel off the wheel ??
(this is the wheel i was thinking of earlier in thread when i sead italvolante horn pad can be peeled off !!!!!!!

Ian
It is a Momo Ghibli 3 355 mm. Extremely old model 90-93 and very difficult to find in new condition. The rim is 5 -7 mm thicker that other Momo models which is very good IMO. I got mine on Ebay but have not seen such in a year. I could only find one shop in Japan that was selling it. It had a variation with red stiches. And yes the horn pad peels off the wheel. Her is another one that I have tested and would strongly recoment - Momo Sport or Roland Asch Edition. Same wheel with 2 names. Thinner than the Ghibli 3 and different on the back side. Diameter is 345 and it helpful to big guys when they get into the car. Also an old model but a lot easier to find in new condition.
Cheers
