I pick mine up today. I "thought" I had a blown power steering rack seal - it was a broken/burst high pressure line on the power steering pump.
It is a lift so it makes things easy

hmmmm Any way to tell if that high pressure line is due for a replacement?

I have no clue. I saw oil at the FRONT of my car and thought it was the rack. Took it in and once they pulled the pan they saw that the rack was fine (needed new boots though so I went with the above mentioned bushings and support bar). They looked closer and found the burst line. I can tell you that it made a nasty sound when it broke as I was backing into my garage. Perfect place to break down. I love this car.

It's a dust shield. It pops on and off fairly easily. Underneath you will find a tube and a rod. If there is fluid on the inside of the tube on the bottom it is more likely that your seals are done. The steering rack looks as it has been cleaned recently. Maybe even rebuilt. I have recently rebuilt my rack using a kit I ordered online. It wasn't too hard just a lot of seals.

Thanks!

When I pulled the pan to see how things looked I did a clean of the parts and pieces. when I pop the dust shield,, if there is fluid does that mean the seals for the steering rack are done? Or, some other seals? Want to make sure I follow since this is new to me. Thanks!

Fluid on the inside of dust shield = steering rack seals gone.

Thanks!

Has anyone replaced their steering rack themselves or is this a job for a pro?
Looks like it is not plug and play....

I changed mine out in a one car garage on jack stands. It wasnt that difficult. I had a local guy in OC rebuild it for me for like $300. When you do it, replace the inner tie rod ends with the GT2 spec parts. Makes a huge difference in steering feel.

Thanks, where did you source the tie rod ends? Did you need an alignment after?

I sourced them from Tarett Engineering and yes you will need an alignment to center the steering wheel and adjust the toe.
