I have 2 fun cars - which one to replace with a 964?
Same question that I've asked on a couple other forums (specific to the other cars that I own) ...
I have, what I think is, a really good combo of DD and performance fun right now. However, I have an itch for a 964, for some reason. I think it's just the art of the car - as even my DD does many things better than an old 964...but I still have this desire... The question is, which one do I replace...or should I just call it done? I'm not in the position to add a 3rd, at this point.
Current cars:
2016 GT350R
2008 Audi RS4 (DD duty - has 50k miles).
If I sell the GT350R, it will leave some extra cash to put into the 911 (I'm not a purist, and I will not be able to leave it stock).
If I sell the RS4, the 911 will take temp DD duty. I drive about 7k miles a year...and even then, I do drive the Mustang part of that time.
I understand that I'm asking this of 964 enthusiasts - but I did the same in the other forums, so it only seems fair. Which one would you swap out?

Plus, sounds like you want to do a little bit of modding (good place to be)!
Given the excitement, as well as anxiety of driving 964 around, it's nice to slide under the radar in a sedan every now and then. Especially a nice one like the RS4.
A 964 - RS4 combo would be mega.
Let us know how skewed our advice is compared to other forums!

Ditto - I would keep the RS4 of the two. Especially, if you like it as a daily driver. But a 964 can make a great daily driver. I drove my cab full time, when I lived in CA. Now that I'm in NH, it gets parked over the winter road salt season.

I am not an Audi enthusiast any longer (used to but grew tired of bending over) but you may be better off keeping the RS4. It has already hit max depreciation and given the Takata airbag crap, you will get raked over the coals if you try to trade it in anywhere. Plus, the RS4 is a better DD than the GT350R, especially if you live in an area that sees real winters and/or want to haul more than 1 adult. The GT350R is a beast and it would be my sentimental choice to keep, but you’ll have a much bigger 964 budget if you sell it (964 prices keep getting ridiculous by the day).

Thanks for the replies. Of course, I know it’s a personal choice in the end - but I enjoy the shop-talk and hearing the opinions of others.
The other forums were pretty polarized towards keeping the model that the specific forum supported, which I kind of expected . RL reps the car I’m considering going TO, so it’s a little different.
I love the GT350R. Driving experience is incredible. I worry about missing the power if I was to swap it for a 964. I have no problems with the appearance of the car, either.
The RS4 is super nice. I traveled pretty far t find it about 14 months back... It drives great but is the most obviously heavy car of the two, from it’s driving characteristics. If it weren’t for the difference in current values, I’d likely getting rid of the RS4.

I would sell the RS4 - a great car - I had one myself. But at 50k miles on that V8 you are getting close to having to have the timing chain carriers due for replacement - a motor out kind of deal. Save yourself that headache...

I'll be driving my dad's GT350r and my 964 C2 back to back tomorrow. i'll give you some feedback if you care to know. however, I've only had the C2 for a couple weeks. But I can already say that the 964 offers a modern-ish vitage-ish experience. great sound but not as modern or angry as the voodoo. the voodoo requires me to recalibrate my rpm:noise senses. it's a lot of sensory overload (except for the steering).
I'd dump almost ANY audi for just about ANY Porsche. R8 v-10? yeah for a GT car.

Sounds like you already know your answer.
I would love to read the threads on the other forums, always interesting to get other perspectives.

Yeah that's a dilemma. Audi's can be hit n miss - had many - still love the way they drive (the ones I've owned anyhow - none of which are close to new). My DD is a 2000 S4 with ALL the mods - turbos, intercoolers, transmission, big reds, euro lights, plus everything, everything else. It requires too much care and feeding but man it drives nice, is fast, and still looks good. Nice cabin to spend time in, too. Snow? Bring it on. 180,000 miles. Yep. But all that said I don't know much about the GT350R - I bet it's a super cool car, tho. Tough choice.

I’m not against putting a few more miles on the Mustang - but it is a GT350R - so it’s a little more rare and the carbon wing ....carbon fiber wheels, even if they don’t see any damage (I’m good at NOT scrubbing wheels), are a theft target.

Regarding your statement highlighted below and not trying to diminish the 964 whatsoever, but both of your cars are way overpower and provide a totally different experience to the car you are looking after. For example the GT350R could be easily replaced by a 964 since both are sport coupes and offer a similar purpose, but the lack of power on a stock 964 could mean a lot of investment to get it to perform at a higher level.
Almost a year into my 964 ownership I can say that it is way underpowered and bone stock simple, but the mechanical feeling and connection with the driver is where it really excel. Not to mention the looks from people on the street, stumbling to watch a +24 year old car pass by and asking about the car is amazing.
964s are magic cars that can be transformed into beasts or just enjoyed as it is.
