Default Mild Cam

Hoping for some advice. I am looking at getting new cams from Webcam. Input would be appreciated. Engine has the following;

993 injectors
993 headers (flipped flange)
Steve Wong chip
6400 rpm red line

Thanks
James

do 993 S cam grind.

You may need to get a custom tune on the Wong chip

Thanks for the reply. Is the 993 suitable to the 964 and my rpm limit being 6400? Idle issues? Steve Wong is doing the chip.

my car is a fresh stock(ish) rebuild with 993S cams, it runs very strong. No issues. Other, and Steve knows this and will adjust for it, with the more aggressive cam you will run lean up top with headers, so he has to account.

I think I got this right (I'm not an expert!)

That's what I did on my build. I used Dema Elgin.

Your engine builder should have the experience to guide you on this and work with the cam shop...

Gave Steve Wong all the specs and he programmed a custom chip accordingly.

I've seen very good results fro 993 SS cams, not sure how they compare to the 993S that has been mentioned
993ss specs:IO btdc 8, IC abdc 52, EO bbdc 45, EC 5, Lobe ctrs I 116, E 110, duration I 24,0E 230, I lift 0.49", E lift 0.446" These are roughly comparable w/ 993RS cams

a bit more aggressive is the GT2 Evo cam set: IO btdc 13, IC abdc 55, EO bbdc 49, EC atdc 7, lobe ctrs I 120, E 111, Duration I 248, E 236
lift I 0.48", E 0.46" These will want a higher idle at a minimum

Thanks for the replies. Does the SS cam affect street driving? If I rev limit to stock am I loosing a lot of low end torque, or could I be missing out on the high rpm hp due to 6400 rpm rev limit?

I've mostly seen these on stock 964 street cars, the owners seem quite happy, dyno results that I've seen are very good

On my 993 motors I have the RS cams which are comparable to the ss but are designed for the hyd lifters, on the 3.6 the idle is a little rorty but very acceptable for a street car, on the 3.8 this is less apparent.

Hello Bill,

may I ask what numbers you have seen on average?

Thanks Christoph

Thanks for all the help. I ordered the Webcam 993SS.

There will be many variables in any dyno numbers given. Variables include the dyno itself, and differences in engine build exhaust etc.

Would you be able to dyno your current, and what I presume is stock setup, before you swap cams to get yourself, and us ;-), a baseline?
