Default Need Tire Sizing Advice

So I picked up a new set of wheels for my Targa finally and I need some help with getting the right tires. The wheel sizes are as follows:

Front: 17” x 8J ET 56.7
Fear: 17” x 9J ET 44

My initial research suggests that the fronts should be 225 Width and the Rears should be 255. I’m not sure what the aspect ratio should be though and also not 100% certain if the size is correct.

I’m not looking to put a huge amount of tire under the car, just enough that it looks right and doesn’t rub. I would like to avoid making any physical changes to the car if at all possible.

Thanks everyone! The debate about which wheel to purchase started even before I bought the car. . I was initially leaning towards the Fifteen 52 but after seeing these RUF wheels I knew that is exactly what I wanted. I miss the dished wheels fo the 90’s and these definitely fit the bill without being too extreme.

So my tire search has been narrowed down to the following, priced from high to low.
- Michelin PS2
- Continental ExtremeContact Sport
- Bridgestone RE71R
- Hankook Ventus V12

I’ve heard good things about the Ventus V12 which is why it’s on the list, they’re also less than half of the Michelins. Weights are all similar for the tires, all on the low end. I’m just wondering if spending up for the Michelins is worth it. Any input?

This is the image that comes to mind every time I see those rims. Look at that rear wheel! (fronts look good too)

I've used a couple different tires over the years and they've all be good in their own ways. Was thinking about getting another set of Sumitomo HTRZ IIIs, as I had remembered the car driving pretty well with them. So I asked the guy who does my tire and suspension work (known as the local "Gawd" for setting up all things Porsche) what he thought between those and the Continental Extreme Contact Sport? He simply said, "one is made in Germany". Sold. I'm now on my 2nd set. Quiet too.

(BTW: I have no idea where the tire is made, just relaying his simple quote)

I run the Ventus V12 evo2s on my Boxster, on my second set. Can't say I have had any complaints. I've been in the same mind trying to determine the best balance of tire for my Cup 2s, also was looking at the BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2

Thanks for the replies, this is helpful! I debated the BF Goodrich also but they weighed more than the others and I’m already adding more weight than I’d like with the wheels so choosing lighter tires is a must. Conti’s are actually the lightest of the bunch and reasonably priced, that might be what I go with here.

I’m surprised that Pirelli didn’t have a tire available in these sizes, I was expecting that to be my choice.
