Default Failed spoiler motor?

Hi,

My rear spolier has been playing up.

It was was working intermittently. Occasional warning light on dash. But hasn't worked for a couple of weeks (always in the down position).

So...I disconnected the gear mechanism from the motor. Tested it with my variable speed drill. Spoiler went up and down fine, though not as quiet as it should be. So I did the new 'ball bearing' fix courtesy of Bergvill F/X

It now goes up and down (when I power it from my drill) silently. So far so good.

But the actual motor won't power it! Is there an easy way to test the motor? (Related fuse is fine btw.)

Replacement ones seem to be north of £300!

Often erratic operation is caused by a bad control unit, not the motor or the micro-switches.

Unplug the motor then put 12 volt to the motor side of that plug change polarity to change direction. Just be careful you don’t jam up the gears running it past full down or full up position

If you find that your motor is actually dead, I have one:

Decklid parts

I has this intermittence and I replaced the motor which fixed it. However with the new motor it took a few attempts to get it going as I failed to engage the cable in the motor fully. When it did click it all worked OK but left me wondering if I had failed to do this properly with the old motor............ I didn't go back and check.

Tested the motor - nothing!

I know you can open them up and refurbish, but life's short...

So I bought a very reasonably-priced, used replacement from a fellow Rennlist-er and fitted it this morning.

Bingo - works perfectly.

Geoff,
I'm happy that it arrived safely and works correctly.

My 964 spoiler motor is not running very well and I’d like to split the case to inspect armiture etc. A while ago while searching the forums I found an image of the motor showing how it had been opened but now can’t find the image… . . It would be very useful to have this as a guide as I cut into the case Can anyone help?

You don't need to cut the case, what you can do is to put a tiny flat screwdriver to pry it open, and that's about it. Replace the bad bearing and it will last a long time, just put some rtv, or jb weld to ensure water tightness.

Where were you when I ruined my case with a Stanley knife.
