Default Wiring for reverse lights

Is it safe to assume you can cut the wiring to the rear reflector in a 964 for the reverse lights and connect those same wires directly to something like this:

I am moving to a grille instead of the reflector (for air flow) and looking for a creative way to keep reverse lights.

Best,
Kris

Wiring wise, yes you can cut and splice as you want. I would double check the wattage of your new lights compared to the originals. There is not a relay in the backup light circuit, so you don't want to over heat your backup light switch.

Does 40 watts seem like it would be safe to run? Thanks for the reply btw.

The stock bulbs are size 7528 which are rated at 26.88 watts each. That gives you a total of 53.76 watts, so yes, 40 watts should be fine.

I would just get some crimp on lugs to fit in the plug instead of cutting the wires. and wattage isnt a problem I had some 55 watt halogen back up bulbs in there for a while , no problems with wiring but they melted the plastic on the reflector
