Hello all
This is my first post here so I hope this question isn't too un-informed. I recently changed the battery on my 1990 C4. It was a pain to get the new battery in, I tried to make sure I didn't damage anything but finally got it in. But now that it's in and I start the car my warning lights won't go off and I get about 15 high pitch beeps. My ABS Light, Interlock light, Cabriolet light and rear spoiler light stay on. I haven't driven the car yet in fear of doing any damage to the car. The manual says to run the car for 10 minutes which I did but they won't go off.
When others have changed their battery did they experience the same lights. Am I being overly cautious and will they go off when I start to drive it? Thanks for any help

When you get into the car, start the engine and hit the warning cancel light on the centre console. This is the button to the far right. This fixes the horn. The spoiler warn should be on. The ABS and PDAS may be seeing a low voltage. As long as the brake warn has gone out go for a drive. Is the little yellow led by the traction control program **** in the centre console on. If it is this means low battery voltage.
I am not sure about the cab roof warn.
Ensure you have all the wires to the battery terminal hooked up to the terminal and make sure you have not shorted them out. You didn't hook the battery up around the way at some time?
I am not familiar with such a fault. It may be the battery voltage so a drive is in order.

Thanks all for the help. It was the fuses that blew . The only wierd thing was the Cab. top warning light stayed on and wouldn't go off until I lowered the top and put it back up. Very strange but not more lights and it runs great Thanks again

Dear John,
It depends. If you make the error see what you have done and correct it within a couple of seconds then you blow the hot wired fuses only. However if you do not pick up the mistake and turn on the ignition then it is christmas tree time. If you then start the engine you destroy the alternator and all the wiring and some more control units.

Believe it or not but it happened to me today. Luckily without damage. My wifes Audi would not start so I had to jump start it. Yep connected her positive to my negative. Lots of smoke, lots of sparks but no damage luckily.
Rule number 1. Do not allow yourself to get distracted when doing these things. I did and messed up. Somebody was looking after me though luckily.

The alternator will generally be destroyed when the battery is jumped in
a reverse manner, especially when the car's battery is totally dead. This
occurs EVEN when the ignition switch is "off". The reason is that the
diodes in the alternator are forward-biased which results in an excessively
large current (>50-100 amps).
The proper way to jump start a car is to ALWAYS connect the minus lead of
the jumper to the car's body and then place the plus of the jumper on the
the plus battery post in the car (or the one you've guessed as the plus).
This way you'll NEVER reverse jump the car's battery.
