I think it changed a lot when they stopped doing the single stage guards red. I remember seeing new Porsche's at the dealers in the 80s and early 90s and they positively glowed in the sunlight with almost an orange-ish look. I don't really see that on the newer cars the color looks more washed out.

I totally agree, when single stage Guards red is properly polished and waxed it looks like it is wet. Rarely do I see a clear coat that can match that level of shine and depth.
