That’s impressive that the pad in still in such good condition. Are you looking for weight reduction, or do you want soundproofing?
If you want soundproofing, consider replacing the old padding with a layer of Dynamat Lite topped with some MLV with closed cell foam. The cabin will be noticeably quiter, and less apt to retain moisture.
If you’re looking for weight reduction, lose the padding altogether and toss in wooden floor boards. $15 for some thin plywood and a rattle can and you’re good to go.

Ok you guys talked me into it! Those boards do look impressive! Today's goal is finish stripping the interior and get the center console back in to start the car and make sure I havnt stuffed something up!

It's a hack and I wouldn't mind betting that one day it'll give you problems. I couldn't sleep at night until that was all gone. Quite probably the usual remains of an aftermarket stereo/alarm install mess.

Yeah I was thinking stereo or something. I might post some pictures of the other side tomorrow. There's all sorts of crap there too! I'l get this carpet sorted then put the wiring on the list.
