Yikes, how much does one of those things cost??? That's one piece of impressive engineering!

But do you mount it on the mantle piece, or car?

Kevin - you said it, this is equal parts engineering and art!

P.S. Robert, you said you get more responses about your stuff (terrible choice of word, but I couldn't think of a better description quickly) on other boards. I think this may be because we're all just too much in awe of it all!

For instance, although you haven't heard much from me, I must look at your stuff a lot at work, because one of my staff said the other day, 'What is that Robert whatsisnames avatar?'

God - they even know it's an 'avatar' - definitely too much Rennlist time!

John:

Ironically, technology from this little 964 is playing an interesting role in present day and future vehicles, i.e., Type 964's influence marches on.

One piece cast titanium upright with titanium centerlock system with ion implated 300M axle and wheel bearing with ceramic *****. In the background: carbon fiber a-arm, titanium/aluminum drop link and titanium aluminum track rod. To this add: a carbon ceramic brake disk with an aluminum bell with titanium mountings, an aluminum lithium caliper with eight drilled titanium pistons and titanium dry breaks in place of bleed screws, the world's first carbon fiber strut housing a true 4-way damper with a blow-off piston and hard chromed titanium inner and outer shafts and titanium main and helper springs.

Would it be considered a little strange to fall in love with a car part?

Not when so much care and effort has gone into the making of them. Robert, as ever, I am speechless with admiration for the quality of your pieces. I think I saw that you planned on letting folks see the finished car in NY, even though I scarcely know where I am going to be from week to week these days, I would very much like to know when that is and see the masterpiece.

Thanks for sharing.

Wow - I too have seen your parts on Rennlist before, but I've never been sure if you have a commercial operation to produce and sell these parts. If not, WHY NOT!!!

Given the price of some of the Porsche parts, yours may even work our cheaper (he says hopefully...)

Should we do a poll to discover which parts would be most popular? Could you put together and post a list of all of the parts that you have recreated?

Thanks for posting these.

Bob- It would probably astound this audience how much weight was saved in the rear trailing arm assembly, can you post the weight saved? Thanks.

I find that, when I look at these and earlier pictures, I just slowly shake my head from side to side...

Ruairidh:

The car should be finished in February (other projects have kept me from devoting the time I had hoped to finish it sooner). My plan is to make it available for people to see in the New York City area as well as possibly somewhere in Florida and in California -- possibly at Porsche Motorsports NA.

Rob:

These type of parts cannot be produced by other than a highly sophisticated operation with the highest level of design engineers, composite and other materials technology, production and machining. Parts based on technology employed in this project are finding their way into use on present generation GT racing vehicles. Yes, they could be employed on Type 964 but certain of the parts might not be seen as cost justifiable except in the case of ardent racers. Having said this, things such as, e.g., a number of the carbon fiber parts and lightweight alternators might be viable given OE pricing.

Cupcar:

Savings for the rear suspension is over 50% and the parts are an improvement in multiple ways.

Over the next few weeks I will post other pictures if you wish.
