Timing Chain Box Removal

Timing Chain Box Removal
Hi,
Hoping for some guidance. My heads are ready to come off, I just need more room to get past the timing chain box. I have loosened the bolts to the box, but I still need a little more room for the ends of the cam to clear it. Do I need to remove the box, if so what is the process. Thanks for any guidance.

Yes, you need to remove the chain box to remove the heads. Once you have removed the bolts, it will come off. You may have to over come any gasket sealant. Just be careful prying. The chain boxes are magnesium and therefore soft metal.

Thanks for the reply. All the bolts are off, it is loose, but something is holding it back from coming off.
I have removed the chain tensioner. Do I need to do anything with with the ramps?

You have to remove the ramps and tensioners too. Then loosen the cam sprocket. Once those are out of the way, the chain box should come off. Sorry its been a few years since I've rebuilt my engine.

If you remove the rocker gear and camshaft you can take the heads off and leave the cam boxes. Good idea to inspect the ramps anyway tho, they tend to wear grooves where the chain contacts.
