Default Goodnight. Gonna be a long 5 months.

Well it looks like the roads are treated with the horrible solution that they spray to prevent icing so that means it's time to hibernate.

That's a shame. I know one of the WORST things for a car is to park it and not drive it for extended periods of time. Fortunately here in Southern California we can drive year round. Hmmm, you know, for a small fee I would probably allow you to ship your car to me and I would drive it once a week for you until you have good weather again. But keep it between us, I just can't do this for everyone. LMK

It's a 76. Sky blue. Original inline 6 2f motor. Lifted with Bilstein shocks, power steering. Slow but oddly very fun to drive. I don't use it too much maybe once a week. I have jump seats in the back so can't take the kids like I do in the 964. My lack of use makes me consider selling it, but I know I'll just miss it and buy another. I've done this cycle 3 times already LOL.

My first car. 79fj40. Crap Brown. All original. Uncle bought new and sold it to me with 30k miles in the mid 90s for near nothing. I drove the crap outta that thing, tons of off-road. Good truc. Miss it. Sold it when i was in college like an idiot. I really need to get another.

I hear ya/ I'm going to be putting my C2 in storage soon enough. The difference is I'll be getting my Bj46 out for winter duty!

Love your Toyota, there is something so reassuring about old Toyota 4x4's

My daily driver is a much younger 94 4Runner, thought about replacing it with the new Hilux but just couldn't bring myself to get rid of it

The feeling it gives me when I get in for a drive is like putting on a comfy pair of worn out slippers

I can totally relate. I get the same feeling when I hop in the 40 as I do when I hop in the 964. They're both built so heavy and well. If it weren't for being very susceptible to rust, fj40's would be completely indestructible. Plus they grab so much attention. Take this thread for example. I started it to show a picture of my stored 964 before she goes under the car cover and still everyone wants to know about the Toyota 😀. They are very special indeed. Sometimes I wish it weren't such a nice paint job so I could take it off road and use it the way it was meant to be.

I love them both too. It's a nice contrast for sure. Mine is still the original paint but I do take it off road because there is some rust around the spot welds so it's just a matter of time before it starts to bubble up. Plus I live to get up in the mountains for some solo camping during the snow season. But in the long term I do want to restore it but then I'll have the same problem- too nice to rough it up. They are tough trucks.

Interestingly I chose my 84 land cruiser and my 964 for the same reason. They were the last and as such the most time tested iteration of the original 60s design. The cruiser was the newest car I've ever owned until the 964.
