Can't shift into reverse in my 964
Over the past several months, it has become harder and harder to shift my '91 C2 964 into reverse. This morning, I went out to take fall-day drive and no matter how much muscle I applied, it would not go into reverse.
Would bagged engine mounts do this? Because it got progressively worse, my uneducated guess would preclude linkage.
Hope my neighbor likes me enough to help push the car out of my garage.

Does it go into gear ok on the rest of the gears? If yes, then we can rule out clutch problems. I would then suspect that your shift linkage is worn/faulty. I have to replace the plastic bushings on mine. The old plastic was crumbling and causing excess slop.
It can't hurt to inspect your engine mounts too while you are there.

Rob: Yes, shifts as usual up and down through the forward gears. I read a thread about the plastic bushin and yes, that sounds like a candidate. Did yours go all at once or did it degrade over a couple weeks? Whatever the problem, I need new mounts so will order those tonight. Wevo blacks?

The shifter bushings decayed gradually. Wevo's are great mounts. I have factory in my cab and RS in my C2. But I have installed Wevo black's in a friends car. They are well made and were just as quiet as the factory originals.

My guess is all of the bushings are shot. I experienced this at one point, used it as an excuse to go for the rothsport shifter/golden rod etc. Would recommend doing the same if interested.
