Default DIY Drilled airbox

I have decided to drill the airbox on my car and fit a K&N filter,Today I bought a 2" hole saw and adaptor so it fits the drill. After I have done the task if any members want to tackle the job themselves your welcome to borrow all you need to do the job via the good old postal service.

Paul, what did you pay for your saw and adapter, I was surprised when I did my airbox that I spent about $40 US (at Ace hardware) for such a small thing!

One (seemingly obvious) bit of advice - The 2" circular pieces built up under my hole saw and I was too preoccupied to notice until it suddenly went from being smooth and easy to requiring some real pressure to drill through! Also the plastic melted around the edges and took a fair few minutes to force back out of the saw again! Doh!

Once you hear the new sound you'll be very glad you did this!

All the best,

Hi Kahdmus, I paid £14 for the saw and adapter so i guess it was a bit cheaper than yours,I did find that the circular pieces build uo and they are a sod to get out! K&N filter should be here tomorrow so I'll re fit and enjoy the sound

Hi Dove

I have been considering doing this to my C2. I have purchased the filter but have not yet had time to install but am wary to cut holes in the air box. What was the difference in sound? Do you think it was worth it? Have you got a spare box in case you want to change back later?

Thanks
Adrian

Definately worth doing for the sound alone. Drilling the box is good, but adding the K&N is the icing on the cake. Said to give 4bhp, too, not that you'd notice

Cheers

Don't listen to them - they are mad!

Try removing the airbox cover and securing the filter with some duct tape. That way, you can try it out first.

What a great idea to duct tape on the filter to "test drive" the newer setup's sound level! That's brilliant John!!!
