Smoke on start up??
Hello all
I went and see a 93 C2 over the weekend. The car had been parked in the garage for at least a year. Battery was death but we hooked up the jump cable the car started right up. Everything seems to be normal but a lot of white smoke and burning oil smell. As the engine warmed up, the smoke seemed to be less. I did not have a chance to test drive. What do you think the problem is?
Oh yeah, valve covers were leaking too. Not bad, just couple oil drop on the floor.

Nothing to be particularly excited about since these cars do that after sitting for extended periods of time.
Have a PPI done that includes a properly done leakdown test. Make certain they listen for any observed leakage and write down the source.

I'm a novice at aircool, this would be my second one if I buy it. What puzzled me is the white smoke. Shouldn't it be blue smoke? White smoke is coolant right?

White smoke can be coolant but in this case the car doesn't have any. My 964 does this if it has been sitting for awhile. It did it before and after the engine was rebuilt. My 2012 does it also. I have always heard that it is related to the horizontal design of the engine.

Are you sure it's white and not vapor like (for lack of a better discriptor)?
If a car has been sitting especially - in a humid environment - the exhaust will have some water condensate in it and as it burns off it will have some vapor that sort of resembles a much lighter than actual white smoke on start up.
