Slowly Chipping Away with the Details
First I want to say thank you to everyone on this forum that has helped answer questions over the years. The amount of information has helped me to not only find a great car but also work through any questions I've had while disassembling and restoring the car.
Shortly after I got the car I started the detailing process. The car is in very good shape but had not been properly cleaned in who knows how long and the paint was in dire need of polishing.
Before I start polishing I will first remove all the lights and trim that would easily come off and I clean all the cracks and crevices prior to polishing. I also polish the lights and clean any accessible areas as I've found doing this takes the car from looking good to looking like new. Here are some shots of what I did. I can provide details if anyone's interested although I suspect most here already have a good handle on this stuff.

Thanks! Stock except for the awful radio! It's on the list along with a bunch of other minor things like the Targa seal in the back.
I used a Griots Random Orbital to perform the polishing. It's really hard to capture the before and after on this paint but I can say the car had some serious swirl marks but nothing too deep. To correct the paint I used two steps.
Step One: Orange cutting pad and Meguiars 205 with speed setting 6 on the orbital. Normally I would use Meguiars 105 as step one but as noted the paint wasn't that bad and there's no sense burning off a bunch of paint if it's not needed.
Step Two: Black finishing pad and Meguiars 205 with speed setting 4 on the orbital.
I finished with Pinnacle Souveran Carnauba.

Did some more detailing this weekend, this time getting the frunk cleaned up and organized. Fortunately no surprises.

Your car looks good.
You need to replace the little rubber plugs if you are prepping it :-).

You cut them at the base of the y so just a stub hangs down. There are 3 or 4 in the frunk. 1 in each headlight.

I have been prepping for concours but I know the cars not ready. Having judged in the past I know I can pick it apart but I'll still show so I can learn what judges look for on the air cooled cars.
The engine needs a ton of cleaning and there's no way I'll get it done and the wheel wells also need to be detailed. Interior is ready as is the exterior and frunk.
Are you going to the San Diego Concours in a couple of weeks? Would be great to meet you and have a good 964 contingent.

I'm not much of a concourse guy. I like a clean enough car. Maybe I'll show my 89 once I finish a few things on it in the preservation type class the car is an all original time capsule.

San Diego is doing a 60 year timeline and I think they still need some 964's to get one of each year, maybe you can enter for that?
I'm also going for preservation class since the paint, interior and carpet are original and in great shape. I would consider full concours but the thought of detailing the undercarriage makes me tired.

As for shipping your car down for spa treatment, my garage is always open to fellow Porsche nuts. Although I suspect that your cars already get plenty of spa treatment based on what I've seen you post.
