US vs. Euro M030 suspension
Greetings,
What are the differences between the Euro and US M030 suspensions? Is it just the springs for ride height? Does anyone know the height to the center of the fender lips on a Factory Euro M030 car? Thanks for your help.
Best,
Don

Dear Don,
All explained in my book with pictures. Only a few days to go before deliveries start.

In case you can't wait for the book, you might want to give Schatz Motorsport a call. They sell the part online, but it looks like their server is experiencing problems. Also, upon3racing sometimes advertises Euro lowering springs in Excellence which may be the M030--not sure.
Good luck!

Dear Joey,
This is a very complex subject and it is not just the springs. It is a whole bunch of issues which take up quite a bit of space. A huge amount of effort, time and money has gone into getting all this information together. I have had a complaint from somebody already regarding this. Saying all I am doing is making sales pitches. That is obviously true and what do people expect? I am not going to put excerps of my book out on rennlist a few days before it is out.
In a few days many of these questions will be answered.
I can ignore the threads but that is not my style.
I recommend that unless the need is urgent and lets face it this is information not a broken down 964 that needs fixing, wait and use all the data provided. Everyone will be quite surprised by what they find and how complicated this subject is. It is not black and white.

Greetings,
I will be happy to buy the book especially if it is good. I do tend to simplify things. I suspect there may be a different strut for the Euro M030 and US M030. I know I can just lower the car with changing the springs but I think the Factory right way is to change over to Euro M030 assemblies. I was just hoping for a clarification and some part numbers. thanks.
Best,
Don

Lighten up, Adrian! Recommending that someone call a parts supplier does not warrant this type of reaction. Your initial response, however, was less than helpful so I felt compelled to offer some assistance.

Here is my understanding. It may be wrong, but it's probably not.
The US M030 and RoW M030 are the same spring rates but the RoW is shorter, thus lowering the car by 20 or 30 mm (I forgot exactly).
While the shocks have different part numbers, the valving is substantially the same so they can be interchanged.
I have not done hundreds of hours of research on this, I just talked to a bunch of seemingly well-informed schmucks and formed my own theory.

Dear Joey,
I was not having a go at you I was expanding upon my reasons on why I did not answer the question in the first place. This was based on receiving a nastygramm from somebody who like yourself now says my answer was not helpful but he expanded. I should have actually said nothing. That is best from now on.

Adrian, it will be a great shame if we lose your contributions to this form because "it's in the book".
I just don't think the mentality is "great, I've got the information without having to buy the book".
Much more likely to be "that Adrian knows his stuff...must get the book"
Ordered mine...can't wait.

Thanks guys. Bill but is the strut the same? If not would you have the part numbers for the struts and front springs? The dealer listing does not differentiate the M030. At least that is what he is telling me. Thanks again.

Don

Dear Bill,
Here in lies the problem. They have the same Porsche part number but not the same vendor part number. They are different not just in length but in all physical dimensions.
Don the dealer will not differentiate because if he is in the USA he will only be able to order US M030 springs. If he is in Germany vice versa.
I recommend you DO NOT use the parts catalogue as your guide in this case otherwise you are going to be wasting money.

PS: Yesterday was a bad hair day and I was thrown offline by what happened.

Thanks again. Adrian, The parts man is looking at the European pet and is telling me he does not see a specific 030 setup which does not seem right. I will wait for your book. Is it safe to assume that you have this covered with part numbers ect ? Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving all.
Best,
Don
