The parts man is looking at the European pet and is telling me he does not see a specific 030 setup which does not seem right.
Don,

You parts man can be looking in the US PET for the RS America/M030 part numbers, or in the European PET for option M030 - they show the same part numbers. What he'll find is:

964.343.707.35 22mm sway bar
965.343.041.00 C2 left front strut
965.343.042.00 C2 right front strut
964.343.041.04 C4 left front strut
964.343.042.04 C4 right front strut
965.333.057.00 Rear shock
965.333.531.03 504 Green Rear spring

Looking forward to Adrian's book to clarify the differences.

Unfortunately what I am about to print is not in my book. I only received it last week. I had actually forgotten about it until I read this thread and part numbers from Bill.
Porsche actually have a 20 mm lowering kit. The interesting point is that it uses all the same part numbers that Bill has listed except the springs.
There are different springs for the C2 and C4 up front but the rears are the same.
C2 front 964 343 531 09
C4 front 964 343 531 10
C2 and C4 rear 964 333 531 06.
Plus there are a couple of things missing from the list above like a 20 mm rear sway bar.
By the way only a 19 mm sway bar is permitted on the Tiptronic. Nothing else.
Ciao,
Adrian

Greetings,

So just to clarify because this is a bit confusing- The Euro M030 rear struts and springs are the same Euro to US. I think I got that. Are they set to the same height? The above part numbers are for an M030 20 mm. lowering kit that is Euro M030 front springs and struts? The last part I am unclear about is are the front struts that are in my car the SAME as Euro M030? Lastly if I do not need to change my front USA M030 struts and use the 20 mm lowering springs, do I need anything else? The RSA already has larger swaybars.

All I am trying to achieve is lowering my car just a bit especially in the front so that it will be set to the European M030 height. I do not want to use aftermarket parts and I want to do this 100% RIGHT as if it was delivered from Porsche. Thankyou for helping me on this.

Best,

Don

Dear Don,
In an answer. Nope. The ROW M030 springs are NOT the same as the USA M030 springs. I can tell you this for a fact because I have a set of USA M030 springs in my basement. When we tried to fit them, well we won't go down that path. Made the C4 look rather strange.
If you purchase a set of ROW not Euro no such thing, M030 springs for a 1991 model year and up 964 and install them on your RSA you will lower the RSA to NORMAL ROW ride height or 10 mm.
On a ROW 964 ROW M030 springs DO NOT lower the same as USA M030 springs do not lower a US 964.
This is why I said what I said in the beginning because now everything is confused.
If you order ROW M030 springs in the USA you will get USA M030 springs not ROW ones.

Adrian

Greetings,

Thanks Adrian for the clarifications and answers. Euro not ROW sticks in my head from the early cars. We always refered to either a US or Euro version, anyway.. I understand what you are saying 100% but I still need to clarify my original concerns. Are the ROW M030 struts the same as US M030 struts? Can you help me with part numbers for the ROW M030 springs and struts if they too are different? Also you mentioned a 20 mm lowering kit and your last post mentions only a 10 mm difference. Thanks very much.

Best,

Don

FWIW, I nominate this thread for the Most Confusing and Complicated award. The former holder was my 'Which brake discs/calipers/pads shall I use when upgrading my braking system' thread. You remember that one don't you? I ended up with the notion that I should be using Turbo 3.6 discs with Audi S4 calipers and Lada pads. Or was it Lada calipers and S6 pads? Doh!

Dear Don,
You have to remember that you are in America. You are 10 mm higher than us. 20 mm for below ROW ride height for us is only 10 mm below ROW ride height for you.
You have the part numbers for the ROW springs and ROW sturts. If you are asking me for the vendor part numbers which are different, no I do not have them. A certain company parted with every piece of information I requested except one. The info on the springs. Especially this. You will see in my book that we did a study on the Turbo 3.6 springs and struts to compare them.
The Porsche logic for this is as I have already said,
If the order for M030 coms from the USA you get the US versions if it comes from outside the USA you get the ROW versions.
The ROW and US M030 struts are externally the same. The ROW struts are valved the same as the ROW Turbo and the US are valved the same as the US Turbo.
M030 DOES NOT lower your 964 under the standard conditions.
The front end is actually not changed in spring loading it is the rear end which is changed by approx 40% from standard with the progressive springs.
So let me give you a reference.
ROW M030 = ROW Turbo (3.3) Suspension.
USA M030 = USA Turbo (3.3) Suspension.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: My conclusion for all of this is do not bother with the ROW set ups from the factory. You have to go aftermarket to go submariner.

Adrian,

Thanks very much for all. For a 10mm difference you are right, it may pay for me to go with an eibach or H+R springs as long as that is ok for the struts that are in the car.

Rob,

That was subtle! My Renlist membership # is 020510-3959 Although I will admit I have not given to the cause recently but will.

Thanks again Guys.

Best,

Don

Dear Don,
Yes they are okay with your struts and shocks because they are beefier than standard. You should not do this with standard struts and shocks.

Yes this is a very confusing subject and why I did not want to go down the path. I am sure most people are more confused now than ever.

My advice to all is to simply FORGET the option M030 story and go with Eibach or H&R, Bilstein or Koni and be happy, not pay through the nose and get nothing for your money.

Option M030 is not the same for the 964 as it is for the 993 and 996 and this is where people get the idea from and then find out that the 964 is not so straight forward. I have no idea who came up with the 964 M030 scheme but it was not very smart. Plus there was Option M031 and others as well.

Ciao,
Adrian

Good advice and not confusing if you reread it! Thanks again.

Best,

Don
