Default My 964 build thread

This car has been in the family for a couple of years until I started driving it about a year ago. Car's previous owner had it resprayed and added a little sparkle to the paint job and I have no idea why. He also had the interior redone in fancy leather, which is not to my liking.

When I got the car it needed minor work to fix an oil leak at the front wheel well so I ordered new oil lines and a new oil cooler and started doing it myself. Wasn't too difficult and I got it done, but when I took apart the side spoiler and bumper I had noticed that the previous owner used silicon glue to put everything in place instead of using the proper clips. Made me wonder what else was up with this car.

This brought me to the conclusion that since I don't like the paint or the interior, this would be a good car for a lightweight project to my liking. I dropped the car off at the workshop to drop the engine to do a major service, including installing the RS LWFW and clutch kit, and fixing any other leaks, etc.The body went to another shop to do a bare shell paint restoration. So far, the list of parts include:

- Recaro pole positions and mounts/sliders
- Von Coilover system (Thanks to Elephant Racing for all suspension parts!)
- Front lower control arm rubber bushing
- Front lower control arm rubber stock hardness bushing
- Trailing arm rubber bushing kit
- Spring plate monoball cartridge kit
- Ball joints
- Front tie rod kit with adjustable bump steer
- 20mm front/rear sway bar bushing
- Front and rear shock mounts
- QuickChange front strut brace
- New AC compressor, evaporator, condensor, dessicator, resistor
- All new rubber kit
- EVO MS K&N intake
- Appbiz RS door panels
- BBS E88 wheels w/ Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (Thanks to SupremePower and Tirerack respectively!)
- Rennline radio and lower dash delete and pedals/floor covers
- Replacement OEM fuse panel
- Major service parts including new ignition wires
- New fuel injectors (Thanks to fiveomotorsport!)

I'm sure there is a bunch of stuff I'm missing but I'll update as I go along.

As of 31/7, my engine hasn't been touched but the body work is progressing well!

Tried to order the appbiz lightweight RS Carpet set yesterday but Bob says they're having trouble printing a shipping label so it might not go through. At the same time, I watched the video below and saw the way they did the interior carpeting and I thought it might be cool to do something similar locally. I have been pressured to put carpeting when my original idea was zero carpeting inside.. is that a really bad idea? I think this might be a good compromise

Go to 15:11 - but worth watching the full video

Finally some progress with the engine. As expected, timing chain covers leaking, some sensors are worn out, some major cleaning required, etc. A list is being put together which I will share here. Turns out the fan was welded and painted by the previous owner so I'll need a new fan. Transmission needs new seal. Wondering if I should look at aftermarket pulleys.

A new fan will come with a bearing so it's a good future proofing move. Why would you replace the pulley?

Was thinking of the single belt pulley conversion but I need the AC.. maybe not enough benefit for me

These projects have a way of escalating. I put carpet in my dedicated track car and I am glad I did. I also like the E88's I am looking for a set in all black for mine but need 9.5 & 12" widths with weird offsets so looks like new it is. What color are you changing it to. The original was a nice color.

In my mind a carpet can always be installed later. Will wait and see. My main thoughts are on the engine now and whether there is any merit in upgrading certain parts or just putting it back with new OEM parts. I'm keeping the color original, it'll be amethyst

Its a local car but its quite a mystery.. can't get any proper history on it.. both my 3.2 and my C2 were bought from the local dealer in 1986 and 1990
