I think you Europeans get a little bit more oomph on your cars than we do in the US. I haven't tested it out or anything, but I think stock my car is limited at 167mph. That car in the vid is going ~180mph.

Don't forget speedo error.....probably 8% high or something at that speed. That would account for quite a bit of difference at top end. That's still rocking fast though!

The tach looks like its sitting around 6400rpm...

I dont have my manual handy, what speed does that correlate to?

I think its around 165mph...

What do you play it on? Windows media player isn't doing it for me.

I used WMP since it's just an avi file. Maybe it's using a newer form of compression then you have. I think WMP is upto version 9 or 10 now, try updating.

During this little trip my friend was side by side with an Audi RS2 which speedo indicated 272 kph (169 mph).
It tells pretty much about the accuracy of 944s speedos ...

There is some more footage of this trip on VHS, but time is needed to put all the interesting scenes into the right format.

Heh, cool. Thought Thom, I don't think it is exactly legal to drive that fast in France.. But of course, silly me, this was done under controlled enviroment on some race track by professional drivers.. Just like me last summer..
Hey, what was the reading in the boost gauge on the fifth gear and "full" rpm's?

Not if the final gear in taller than the 951's that were available in US or after 1989. And i have heard that a taller fifth gear was/is available.

To me a taller gear would equate to lower RPM's needed for a high speed. Im not a scientist nor am i a automotive engineer but it makes sense to me.

As this car was stock I believe boost pressure was 0.8 (1.8 on the gauge)

ok. I was just wondering, because in stock condition 951's tend to loose boost pressure after 5500 rpm, even 26/8.
But anyway, it looked like fun. Do that same thing with your S2..
