Default Anyone know anything about 944Racing's 968 Bridge Spoiler?

944Racing offers a 968 spoiler for 944's, for $419.00. I am thinking this is a "must have" item for my '87, but I would like to hear from anyone who has actually bought one. How'd did it it fit, how was the finish, and did you have any problems?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Scott,

I bought one from Scott at KLA, and it was the same unit that 944racing sells.

It is a very solid, nice piece. There are three things to consider when installing that I noticed:

1. You need three people for the installation of the wing part of the kit, the wing needs to be flexed in order for the outside holes to line up with the holes in the hatch. Two people are needed to flex it while a third inserts the bolts and nuts.

2. The pop-rivots that were supplied with my kit were useless, as they were too big for any standard rivot gun that is readily available. They may have changed that by now. I used 2 nuts/bolts/large washers that I bought from Lowes.

3. The small center trim piece had the little metal tabs molded into it in the wrong places, so that they did not line up with the holes in the hatch. This was not a big deal, I ended up doing some epoxy work on my own and made it work fine.

It is a great piece for the money. If you are fairly handy and can handle doing a little on-the-fly improvising, you'll have no problems.

Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help!

Tifo

Thanks for the response! Looks like I am gonna be a few bucks poorer today! lol How long did it take to ship, and did you order it off their website, or did you order it over the phone?

Scott,
Please let us know if this piece is still available. I've been able to find the install instructions for the piece, but no actual listing to purchase it. With my car going into the body shop this winter, this would be a nice "while your in there" piece.

Regards,
I ordered mine via email from Scott at KLAindustries. They no longer sell the wing, but it is the same wing as the 944online unit. There is some sort of relationship between KLA and 944online, as KLA has a lot of the same products as 944online and/or supplies them to them, and/or shares a common supplier for some products as well.

So, I can't really speak for 944online's service as I have always ordered from KLA. I know that I have sent 2 emails to 944online in the past inquiring about the 968-style mirrors and they have replied in rapid fashion, so they seem pretty good.

Oh, the finish was OK, as good as you can expect. It was a primer finish that needed another heavy coat and some additional sanding filling to get it up to snuff. But, it was a great piece for the money and it was no problem for me as I don't mind doing that kind of stuff...

Hope that helps!

944racing are good guys. The spoiler had a couple of quality control issues, probably the ones tifo spoke of, the reason KLA quit selling it because they wanted it to be 100% bolt on. 944racing had 4 on the shelf last month and were working on the small issues of fitment. I saw one of them installed on a car when I was last in Tulsa OK and it looked great. 944racing is in a suburb of Tulsa, Broken Arrow.

Hmmm... it was on the website a day or so ago, but now that I am trying to order the darned thing, no such luck. Did they discontinue it? I have called and left a couple of messages for them, but no one has called me back. The money that is burning a hole in my pocket is getting darned hot!

Guess its not a 968 spoiler then! More like the '91 S2 or '90-'91 951 spoiler I have on my turbo. I took the easy route and switched hatches off a parts car. Still not sure if it's a "E-stock/prepared" legal mod for club racing, but it looks good.

Tamato, tamatto, potato, potatto. I think we all understand the subtle difference between a late S2 & late 951 (not in the US) bridge spoilers verses 968 bridge spoilers. It really just is much easier to call it a 968 spoiler, instead of qualifying it with all of that extra jargon.

Late S2 hatch - 1100 -1400 dollars. Seems kinda high when I do see them come around.
