Is there any off the shelf pre turbo intake tube (like a MAF with no MAF) that people are using to go VEMS/MAP? 3" preferably for K27.
Going VEMS next month and want to see if something's out there before having something fabbed. Needs to put cone filter behind headlamp and have AOS, BOV and Evap ports.
Also going to hollow out AFM for those special state mandated times, but for regular use want to take advantage and have as little restriction as possible pre turbo.
Why not just use the stock airbox and stuff, but make a simple tube to connect to the J boot? With the AFM out of the picture there isn't really any restriction aside from the loop-di-loop air path.
PS. Could you please document your installation and impressions of the VEMS system on your 951? I know Spencer has done his already for the 944, would like to hear how it goes on the 951 as well. Almost got enough for my kit. Happy Holidays
Spencer that's a good idea, I have the 3" j Boot already in use, but want to see just how unrestricted I can get the pre turbo section, even if I end up back with stock box and tube.
Shortyboy the IAT for the VEMS wants to go on the intercooler to TB pipe, so I'll have a welder friend weld a bung in for that.
I'll probably have him fab an intake pipe as well just didn't know if there was something easier.
I will def do a thread on the install and tune, I think a few of us are getting together to have Raceboy fly over and final tune our cars himself some time in the new year.
Spencer ill keep you posted! Been thinking about it should be easy to fab 3" AL intake pipe with proper bend cut and welded. Will post when prototyped.
I have installed the VEMS on my 87 951 and am happy to answer questions.
My car car is low mileage and I wanted to be able to install a system with minimal permanent modifications. The IAT sensor was installed in the charge pipe but that's a simple part to replace. I've removed the AFM completely now (not in the picture) and put it aside and am using the existing J boot so far to an air filter behind the head light. Plans for the car include fabbing a S/S J boot replacement when the car comes out of storage in the spring.
My original thought was to flip it for a temporary solution when I first was tuning the car. Instead, I used a narrow radius steel/muffler pipe to change directions and get the filter to the corner. Not an elegant solution as the pipe needed to be deformed to clearance the charge pipe, but it does leave the AOS/vacuum connections intact.
