Default Bad gas??? WTF!?

After 3 sessions at Big Willow running strong (there was an off upon catching traffic, oops, ran fine after that), realized fuel was very low, put in 4 gallons of 91 at the track pump, went back out next session and one lap in started experiencing loss of power like running out of gas, no power on throttle, but would idle, nursed it back to pit. Thought maybe fuel starvation on g loading and put 2 more gallons in. Last session get back out and it does it again. Limp it back, think maybe bad gas.

Limp it to chevron, fill up, try to get down freeway, same issues, sputters upon throttle tip in and occasionally gives full power, but mostly missing and stalling. Idles fine, and will sometimes give full throttle run, but not enough to sustain highway driving.

Waiting for tow now, but does this sound like bad gas? I don't think I did any damage on/off track, and everything looked good after inspection, and it was running strong before putting the track 91 octane in.

Hope this is any easy drain fix!

Thanks!

Maybe crud at the bottom of your near empty gas tank?

+1 with something clogged.

Last time i had bad fuel, it felt very sluggish getting onto boost. but once boost kicked in it was fine. but i didn't like it. drained the fuel. put new fuel in (where i usually get it from, BP) and back to normal.

I might have it puzzled, it rained heavily today at Willow, maybe water got into their tank? I've run the tank much lower than it was today with no problems, and I have a fresh fuel filter and pump. Water is heavier than gas, so I got 6 gallons of their finest water/91 mix?!

Maybe this is a good time to change the tank sock as well.

Also sounds like you could have partially blown an intercooler pipe, or cracked a intake coupler. Fuel could just be a coincidence.

I just replaced the couplers and pressure tested the intake tract, so its hopefully not that, but I will check today-

Took it to the shop today since I don't have disposal for gas. Got it on the dyno to figure out the problem, first 4th gear run to 6000, it ran perfect and pulled 340 WHP! Second run, operator pulled out because AFRs shot way up (bad gas/water?). Third run ran to 6500, made 353WHP at 6200!

Decided to go ahead and drain the tank, and ran the pump to clear the lines.

Put shell 91 oct back in and it's running perfect again.

Lesson, beware the 91 octane at the track pump, apparently no one else uses it.

That was simple to fix!... probably the most expensive tank of gas you've bought for a while.

It's pretty impressive that it didn't pop anything at those power levels.
