I am going to try to make the story short. My car has a history of blown head gaskets 3 to be exact. The last time the head gasket was replaced we installed a metal head gasket, my assumption is that the cylinder rings became the weak link, and after sustaining so many blown head gaskets they were fractured and gave up.
The reason for so many head gasket was mainly over boost. The cycling valve was bad on the first 2 times and on the last one, I was trying to tune the Lindsey digital maf with a manual boost controller and a tial wastegate, but the wastegate had a broken diaphragm, and you know what happens, it just went in a big cloud of white smoke. Well the metal head gasket did his job well, until my last visit to my mechanic he found a exhaust leak, well he fixed it. That night when I was driving home I noticed my car pulling way stronger than before I looked at my boost gauge and it show 19psi, even though my reliaboost was set at 15psi and the rest is history.
Now I am screwed.

I wish I could have Tony's short block that's a beast but $ 3500.00 plus 22+hours of labor that the mechanic is going to charge me is kind of too much for me at this moment, unless Tony of course could finance the engine for me. J/K

Sounds pretty good, I would want a leak down test done before I bought it.

Remember shipping from Pa to Ca will be about $400

That is a painful picture to look at. Sorry about that. Have you tried parts heaven in Hayward California, or 944 Ecology (George B)?

a 3 liter sleeve job would fix that right up too of course.

You might call this guy. He has an 86 complete engine disassembled for $1500.

For those interested, he also has NEW 3.0L blocks, 968 turbo S heads(bare), 968 N/A and turbo pistons, rods, bell housing, torque tubes, etc. His supply is pretty good right now but he does not when it will dry up. He is not cheap but with the CAD to US exchange, not bad.

Block, 3.0 NEW - $1800 - prices are US
Rods - $229 USD/pc
Bell housing - $225
968 Turbo S head $1178 (bare head)
Torque tube - $399
Turbo pistons - $1,300

Ouch! The looks pretty rough! I hope mine isn't that bad when we take it apart. We just took the motor out Wednesday, so we'll know soon. Good luck and keep us posted. I know I've been offered a few blocks from the list for around $700 or so. I'm sure you'll get some offeres like that.

Lart - I have a good running engine in my 951. I might consider parting with it if the price were right. It is about 20 mins from being on the floor. I was in the process of replacing oil pan gasket etc. PM me if you are interested.
