Is this actually a '90? I'm not sure about RHD models but the '90 should have an airbag steering wheel. 968 rear spoiler and the wheels are different.
Interesting points. Checked its registration and definitely first registered 1990. VIN is WP0ZZZ95ZLN100646 not sure that reveals build date.
I do however know that the turbo cars switched from 'club sport' forged wheels to 9"/7.5" D90's around this time as did the M030 spec S2's. Pic below.
My '91 S2 has the bridge spoiler but maybe that was '91 specific ... I think I recollect seeing in a '91 brochure that the bridge spoiler was a 'new' introduction for that year.
Your car should have the same hatch as your S2.
In fact, 1990 turbos were the models that introduced the bridge spoiler.
The hatch was modified for the 968 as they have different ways of sealing to the body. 944 hatches for cars that did not use the elastic luggage blind do not feature the two eyes to hook the blind on. There is a long gasket on the 944 that was dropped on the 968 hatch, along with the two gaskets around the closing pins. On a 968 hatch this long gasket is absent, and two different gaskets are screwed to the bodywork around pin holes.
Airbag was definetely option for ROW cars but bridgespoiler should be 1990 standard fit. Could be that it was not fitted until later in 1990 if your find is a very early -90 car.
To me however the rubber wing looks better. Bridge wing is better suited for the 968.
'L' is 1990, and chassis # 646 is kinda early (more like midway)... so that might explain the spoiler.
I also wondered about the D90s, but thought perhaps either a later year and/or ROW change, as opposed to original CS getting swapped out.
I think that is spot on ... I did check a '91 brochure which said the bridge spoiler was new for '91 but could easily have come in mid '90.
I've seen a number of late 951's with D90's and with them being 9"/7.5" it would not have been an easy swap out. From other posts in this forum there are ROW late 951's with D90's but also some thoughts that for ROW that M030 spec was optional. Guess I'll have to wait until I see the car. I'll be a bit disappointed if it comes without the M030 suspension, brakes and LSD.
The bridge spoiler was standard on all 90 turbos, but mentioned as a new feature on 91 S2s.
M030 was indeed optional for 90 and 91 and sorry to say but considering the ride height it looks like you have the standard Sachs shocks.

Oops ... I bought the car unseen (other than pics) .. the price was right. Completion is subject to inspection.
I never realised that M030 was an option for the '89-91 cars. I thought the turbo S spec just carried through and they just dropped the 'S' nomenclature. Never to old to learn
I got a screen print ex Porsche dealer. The invoice date for the car is 31st Jan 1990 which may explain the rubber spoiler. Shows AOR transmission which is good ... but I'll have to wait until I see it to see if it has the suspension. Did the big brakes come with the M030 package or was M030 just the Koni's when optioned for the 1990 cars. I have a full set of Koni adj incl mounts, on the shelf, so if it is just the Koni's I can rectify that easily.
