^^^ Porvair, I am certain yours is an 'S' as well, for all of the same reasons that Rob in Toronto's is.. the only additional evidence you're missing is the COA, but there's enough without it.

And I presume you have the front frame gussets as well?

Yeah the thing we learned from this experience is that Porsche apparently did not update build stickers and COAs from '51' to '52' for the 'S' engine code until 1989, for whatever reason. At one point I'd spent weeks researching the 88 & 89 951 S vs. non-S differences and had missed that little detail.

90 and 91 cars were confusing with the options such as with or without M030.
I don't remember the specifics, but remember talking about it with the mechanic at MCL Porsche back in 1994. He suggested to me to buy a turbo S rather than a 91 at the time since the particular 91 did not have M030.

Yet another oddball example, My 88 951 has the original widow sticker that says it's a Turbo S yet the sticker in the back has engine code 51. It has the larger turbo and frame gussets.

Sold for $22.2k

It's funny how crazy everyone gets for the 88 Turbo S, even though it seems pretty difficult to verify that they are an S.

The 1990 Turbo listing is gone. Anyone from here buy it?

I think all 88 Turbo S cars had 51 on the trunk sticker. They also have the AOR transmission code which for an 88 indicates Turbo S.

Not really difficult once you know what to look for... and collectively the community seems to have gotten that down to a science. As detective work goes, it's actually a bit of fun to uncover a "lost" 'S'.

I agree with the "crazy" bit, and that's why I opted for an '89.

That appears to be the case. If in doubt, check the stamping on that big lump of metal under the hood.

Mine, as well. I know for a fact the engine block has 52 stamped on it.

Another Turbo S car on BaT, will probably bring strong $$ based on the current bidding after only 1 day:
