Default 1988 951 S on BAT

Not mine - not even listed as an "S" but the VIN confirms it is. Nice looking car. Curious as to what the hammer price is.

Are you sure it's not a base '88 with M030 and limited slip? The COA shows it has the M44/51 engine, not the M44/52 from the S.

Not sure about the VIN guaranteeing it's an 'S', but the COA seems to.

So far all of the BaT commenters have missed two details:
  1. 'Special Model Turbo' in 1988 only means one thing
  2. 47J is an 88TS motor. If it were a regular 88T, it would be 45J.

Either that info is wrong, or the COA should have said 'M44/52'

I think it's an 'S'.

Hmm, I just read the owners comments and he says it has every single piece from the turbo S including the wheels.... but nothe the k26-8. I guess that could be a bad repair l.. or the coa could be right

I ended up commenting
Looks like he's going to go off tonight and try to confirm the engine#s and hot side housing.

Best way to confirm is to ask for photos of the frame additions just forward of the strut towers.

Hard to see on the few pictures of the engine bay but they are there.

I would offer that the correct M44/52 + AOR drivetrain is equally as convincing and arguably of greater importance.
One could argue that they could have been swapped in, but in conjunction with the numbers-matching COA and correct build options, this one was a slam dunk.

Swaps can go both ways, so here's an interesting dilemma:
If a car has an 'S' shell (with gussets) but none of the other correct 'S' equipment... is it still an 'S'?
On paper, yes... to make matters worse.

Would you guys rather own a Turbo S or a 1990 Turbo?

3) '88-'89 S plain colors non silver rose

I did at least manage to achieve #3. Emphasis on "plain color".

Still more desirable than a base '87!

Part of the seller's initial confusion was because the COA lists the engine as M44/51, which would seem to be a non-S. But the engine in the car is a M44/52 per the pic of his engine ID.

I have a pretty similar car, and I pretty certain that it is an S, and I have also confirmed that the engine block is stamped m44/52. The build sheet indicates 51 as the engine type so I imagine that if I got a COA I would also see that listed instead of the M44/52 that is in my car.

Rather confusing...
