Default Ignition Rotor hex head bolt

What the heck is the size of the little screw that holds the ignition rotor on???????????

Here is the thing.

It is smaller than a 3.5mm hex head. I just bought one made by Bondhus.

3mm is too small

and 9/64 is of course too big it's 3.57mm

and 1/8th is too small

I'm going to have to file down a 9/64 allen key

What the heck is going on

Well with a little WD-40 and waiting a few days I managed to do this to get the hex head out.

I used a Torx Head T-20

Tapped it in gently with a hammer so it would bite.

Turned it using a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and extension.

Hope this helps anyone that runs into the same issue. Hopefully it does not happen to anyone else.

Not the greatest quality screw since it had some corrosion and was not in the car for very long. Only 5 years and slightly less than 20000km driving in nice weather only.

It's definitely *supposed* to be a small allen. Don't recall the size.
I don't think Torx even existed in 1982 when they first used that screw to hold a 944 rotor on.

Glad you got it out though. Torx and triple square are handy for stripped allen screws.

It should be a 3mm if it's the same as the NA. I've read some say it may a 1/8".

I figured as much. When I purchased it from Porsche it was already attached to the inner sleeve part so I never noticed it originally. Going to always check that hex head now.

We buy large batches of hardware at work and every once in a while you get a hex head that is slightly mangled inside. This appeared to be one of those situations. It was dish shaped inside.

If you can find one in that size I think it'd definitely be worth putting a Torx in there.
