Default Help needed to value parts car

Hey guys,

I have an angle on a 1990 Turbo that I want to pick up for parts. The car is a non-starter and has been festering outside for 5+ years. Brakes are welded solid with rust and pretty much every panel has a whiskey bump.

I want to grab it for the interior mainly. Sport seats, perfect dash amazingly, central locks, rear seat-belts, speaker options etc. I am sure I would break the thing down just for every nut and bolt I could ever need on my '86.

I figure 2K tops would be my comfort level seeing as I have to store it and break it down myself when I have time, but I have never negotiated for a scrap car before.

Am I way off as far as value?

Once again, many thanks in advance for the pool of knowledge here!

Jase.

A low miles turbo S transmission is worth almost 2k by itself if it's in good shape. I wouldn't be afraid to spend at least 3k if the interior parts are as nice as you say. You're on the money if it was a non S turbo without LSD. My friend recently paid $2600 for a running driving 86 turbo.

I would say if you can get that car for 4K or less then buy it.

Agreed. Looks like this car could be brought back to it's former glory. Any information on mileage? Any modifications that you can see?

Hey Guys,

You know, I too cry a tear when Lart takes a perfectly good, shiny running 951 off the road. It really does hurt.

But this thing would take at least 20K to get it back to it's former glory. Then what would it be worth? Repainted? Refurbished? No documentation? No history? I mean, hell... even the front badge looks like Liam Neeson wrapped it around his finger then poked it back into the hood!

It's a 1990 Turbo, Chalky white on Black. 135,000 kilometers if the gauge is accurate... The rims are rashed on the edges, rust and dents everywhere, lights cracked.

The whole car is bone stock, including the fuel lines and right down to the muffler. Everything is rusted together or seized. And that was just a cursory glance. I just know it's way above my abilities in skill, and time. I would pay a shop to do it if I saw the value on the other end.

Anyway. I offered 3K. If we can't come to an arrangement I'll post the details so you guys can resurrect her!

Thanks again for the advice!

Jase.

By the way, I'm sure we were all quoting american dollars for the value... That car's worth like 30 grand canadian right now

And you're almost certainly right that paying a shop to restore it isn't going to be a good value for you. The only way to be in it right would be to do most of the work yourself.

No one is going to pay those prices to some random guy off the internet who doesn't have at least an internet store with some kind of reputation or guarantee. You may be getting 3k for AOR, but I can't imagine they're flying off the shelf at that price. Someone just sold an S2 gear box with a Guard LSD for 3k, which is way more up to the task than an expired turbo S box. I see a lot of long blocks listed for $2500, but I never see them sell...... Plus the car is a non runner, so the drive train is a complete gamble.

How much would you pay for it Lart, you never answered his question?
I would be comfortable at three, and would't go over 4 without hearing it run.

Restore the car, and make more money than you will ever get parting it out.

Send the car to a detailer, get the single stage shining again, buy a rebuild kit for the calipers, redo the rims, get new tires, change out the belts, wp, seals, fuel/oil/air filters, change the fuel lines.

Then sell the car or keep it. No need to go full out nutso on the car, no concourse restore needed unless you're looking to pull down $45k. I bought a red 944 that had bad paint, it was factory paint, but it was in horrible condition, chaulky, faded, and neglected.

A day of washing, compounding, polishing, and waxing the car produced these results below. The factory paint is more resilient than you would think, even after 30 years of neglect.

I think there is a lot of value in the car as being brought back to life and then sold as is.
